Do you recognize this game from the description? I don't remember it. Googling turns up nothing.

"Iv been searching for this game for years and I always end up at a dead end. So I figured maybe I'd try this.. I remember a HUGE monster you could change into to break down walls, and a Ripley looking dragon for flying around. It took place in a city and had something to do with a film studio, and you played a young teenage boy. Any leads at all are appreciated! I'm determined to revisit this game, but I'm starting to think I dreamt the whole thing up! Also, this was in no way an RPG.. I always end up thinking I found it, but it ends up bein Persona or Summon Night which are both RPGs. It is NOT Kid Chameleon or Altered Beast, either.

[Edit] I rented this game from Blockbuster in the early 90s, like right when SNES came out or a lil after.. Also, the bad guys were mostly thug mobster types, I believe. The monsters you transformed into were grotesque and huge and mucousy, and seemed like they'd be the bad guys, but they wernt. I wish I could take a photograph in my memory, but one scene was like a New York street, then you'd get to a building with stairs you'd have to climb back and forth to get to the boss at the top.. I remember being the nasty dragon ripley thing for that. I know that's not much to go off of, but I'm laying it all out here knowing that if this doesn't get it answered, nothing will. Hell, then I'll have to imagine maybe I dreamt the whole game up when I was young..
[Edit 2] Title screen had a projector film tape border look to it. I wanna say the premise was that the boy was using these monster costumes to fight the baddies, maybe? just thinkin aloud, folks."

Don't think so. The Youtube of gameplay doesn't really match the description.

I do wonder if this was a dream that person had, or memories of an actual game (or multiple games) that became seriously scrambled over time.

The fact that they can't remember if it was genesis or snes is leading me to believe that.

Sounds like Zombies Ate My Neighbors, albeit with some memory-distortion:

"Title screen had a projector film tape border look to it." - check

"I remember a HUGE monster you could change into to break down walls" - check

Thanks. I'll see if this is right.

Okay, this person seems sure that it's a side scroller and not "Zombies". Hmmm...

It's not Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap is it?

I don't recall "turning into a huge monster and bashing down walls" in that one, nor do I recall a city scenario. Close, though.

I think he meant Ridley from metroid which fits the dragon description. It does sound a lot like Zombies Ate my Neighbors, but I can't think of any side scrollers that fit the description at the moment...

Well, there's a distinct lack of thug mobsters in Zombies Ate My Neighbors

That, and I can't think of any dragons that fly in that game. Just lots of ground creatures and the occasional UFO. Maybe it's different in Ghoul Patrol, but I never played that one.

Well, the guy is now saying that he probably did dream the whole thing when he was young. Great.

It could be that he dreamed a mixture of Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Monster Party. The latter has the "Ripley" dragon, the thug mobsters in the first level, and the young boy protagonist.

The climbing up stairs sounds like Ghostbusters, but there are similar scenes in ZAMN.

No problem with that - I've done the same thing a few times, where memories and dreams get confused. Eventually I would separate the elements and realize I took 1 thing from 1 place, another from something else , until I finally understood what I thought I remembered. For this reason I really don't trust my memory or other people's memories .

Got any examples of yourself doing this? Here's mine: all through my teen years I kept 'remembering' being in a fishing boat on Lake Pymatuning with my dad, and seeing this old white house with spotted trees close to the shore, going up a hill to where the house was. Around 19 or 20 years of age, I took my dad's boat out and searched for it - it wasn't there! This disturbed me for a while. Then we went to Conneaut Lake Park again and I saw the Conneaut Hotel - that was the house. I confused two different childhood images into one. I was actually relieved when I figured out the mystery.

He says that "Monster Party" is the closest suggestion thus far, and wonders if there is a 16-bit remake/sequel with huge sprites when you transformed and takes place in a city. Unfortunately I don't think there is such a game.

I'm pretty sure there was no 16-bit version/sequel.

Takes place in the city? Maybe he's getting elements of Monster Party mixed up with King of the Monsters or another game similar to Rampage, along with the other games mentioned above like ZAMN.

I know this is a long shot but what about El Viento or Alicia Dragoon. El Viento took place in the city, 1928 New York, and involved the Cthulhu mythos along with mobsters and also had a lot of connection to Earnest Evans. Only thing I don't remember changing into any giant monster and the character you played was a female sorceress. In Alicia Dragoon, you had different dragons you could pick to help you fight the bad guys from destroying the world and to avenge your father's death but it took place more in a ruins than a city and again you play a female sorceress. Other than that I'll have to do more research.
