hi there
it is some weeks I am absent from forums because my biz, like all european and italian economy, not going well and this incoming Xmas will not be the best. Dark clouds on the old continent .. really hope you can see some sun rays there.
Anyway..... I see more and more games ported from Sega SG-1000 ( or SC-3000 ) for my beloved ColecoVision console. This the starting point.

Some friends of mine practically ready to launch for production a multicart, sd based, for that Sega console.
As u know Sega marketed this system through many many distributors in Europe and still easy to find systems for sale at reasonable prices ( out of Ebay) and the games have a niche market here.

what we do not know is if this system was also sold/distributed in Canada or USA.
We are infact considering the possibility to ALSO produce an adapter to allowing playing sg-1000 carts directly on our Colecovision. a sort of expansion no. 1/b for the Sega Mark I.

Are the carts for the Sega SG-1000 / Sega Mark 1 easy to find in USA/Canada ?

in this case an adapter for the Colecovision would have some "numbers" more to be produced in minimum quantities....
or may be you would be interested to get the adapter with the multi(sd)cart bundled together so to have access to approx. 100 games more easily downloadable on the web.
...
Will appreciate your comments, here or as PM, the same.
Thanks
MAX

then....who would be interested to a Creativision adapter for Colecovision ? but this is another story, to be discussed here may be somewhere in 2012...
( looking for Sunrise new games for Colecovision ? still have some..send me pm )

Sega's first real entry into the US market was with the Sega Master System, the SG-1000 was never released in the US. Those who collect SG-1000 games have basically no choice but to purchase them from Japan, for the most part.

Yeah they're really hard to find outside of Japan and Australia (I believe it was also released there). I have a few but they were expensive to import.

While they do have to be imported the games show up often for sale on Ebay. So a buyer in the US can get them if you are willing to pay a little extra on shipping. I was going to buy a Dina one of these days so I can do just that. I would like to see an adapter for the games. I would rather have an adapter to run them on the Sega Master System, but an adapter for the Colecovision would be cool as well.

I am not a big fan of SD based multicarts. I would rather have the real carts.

You want an expansion module that people would REALLY go for? One word: Intellivision.

EDIT: Besides, most of the best games the SG-1000 has to offer have already been ported to the ColecoVision...

Lots of other people are fans of SD-based (or CF) multicarts, though. That's why Everdrives - however expensive they may be - are always out of stock, everywhere.

In France , i don't think the SG 1000 has been commercially available. But we had the computer SEGA SC 3000 ( i have one :) ) and the cartridge are compatible with SG 1000 (and inversly).

There are tons of very good game in SG 1000 , only few have been ported to colecovision. But personally i don't have real interrest in this kind of direct portage.

If you want have an idea how good is the software library of the SC 3000 / SG 1000 , you can play almost all game on line on this fantastic web site : http://www.play-sc-3000.com/

Which games are these?

- Lode Runner
- Penguin Land
- Zippy Race
- Chack 'n Pop
- Sega Galaga (Opcode prototype)
- Exerion (Opcode prototype)
- Gulkave
- Girl's Garden
- Pitfall II - Lost Caverns (released as Pitfall II Arcade on CV)
- Golgo 13
- Ninja Princess
- Star Force
- Bank Panic
- Wonder Boy (to be released next year, IAGW)
- Champion Ice Hockey (to be released next year, IAGW)
- The Black Onyx (to be released next year, IAGW)

Very few SG-1000 titles worthy of being ported to the CV remain, in my humble opinion. Maybe Star Jacker, Flicky, The Castle, Drol, Elevator Action, Bomb Jack, C-So!, that's about it...

the SG 1000 game not yet ported i like are :

Bomb Jack
Champion Ice Hockey
Congo Bongo

Monacogp
pacar
Pop Flamer
Rock n' Bolt

Even if some of them already exist on coleco , they are realised differently and worth a try.

Bomb Jack - COULD PROBABLY BE IMPROVED CONSIDERABLY
Congo Bongo - COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME WITH THE PERSPECTIVE CHANGE
h.e.r.o - DIFFERENCES AREN'T ENOUGH TO WARRANT ANOTHER RELEASE
pacar - WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS PROJECT FINISHED AS THE DEMO ROM IS PRETTY GOOD
Rock n' Bolt - DIFFERENCES AREN'T ENOUGH TO WARRANT ANOTHER RELEASE
zaxxon - POSSIBLE, ALTHOUGH I'D RATHER SEE NEW GAME TO THE CV PORTED
QBert - ???

Even if some of them already exist on coleco , they are realised differently and worth a try.

I personally don't care about a system that was not released in the USA, so the only appeal for me would be the fact that it is for the CV.

If you choose to take on such an ambitious project... I wish you the very best of luck.

thanks for yr. comments, really appreciated. As some homebrewers and programmers here know very well I have absolutely NO technical competence but these guys I know asked me for such a market survey and that's why this thread here. This hardware not too far from production in proto form. We will see together what will happen then.
Personally I like a lot the games for this system ( I have many ). Playability is great. What I do not appreciate is graphics, a little bit below the Colecovision...

Intellivision adaptor...it's up to you US guys...I would like to play Utopia, Sea Battle, Sub Hunt, Space Battle, Armor Attack...in solo mode.
( Luc...Utopia still postponed ? how many Sunrise games have to send you to see this game completed ??? :-D )

All SG 1000 (and even MSX) game could be greatly improved nowaday. (without commercial constraint and tools with have today we can do better on almost every game released).

I don't have interrest in SG 1000 port to CV. The game i listed are just game i like play on SG 1000. And for instance i would love to see a great conversion of Bomb Jack on CV but NOT from the SG 1000 version. I think a version done from the arcade source as Opcode does for few title could be very good.

I'm currently wrapping up programming Super Mario Galaxy for ColecoVision. I began coding yesterday, should only take me a couple of months or so to wrap up. I'll get to Utopia next. :P

I would want both SD cart and adapter, I was planning to get a sega master system with the SD everdrive cart because that will play SG 1000, but I would still like to have it on the colecovision mostly because I play that the most. It would be nice if the SD cart could play colecovision and SG 1000 games in the same cart :)
