Hi there,
I see that Afterburner Climax is on sale on PSN and part of me is tempted to buy it given there's a dozen trophies. But then again, I was also thinking of getting the Sega Genesis 32X version of Afterburner for a more classic experience.

Does anyone have any opinion for either version?

I heard Climax was difficult and admittedly even back in the coin-op version I never survived for long playing it.

Part of me just wants to get on my John Connor on....

Why not just buy both? After Burner on the 32X is a great port of the arcade After Burner II, and Climax is just like the arcade version.

I'll probably get both then, I just wanted to ask around if either of them was particularly bad or hard to play or anything.

Thanks for the info.

Nah, not really, they both basically are what they are--Good arcade ports. The 32X version is basically a straight port with few options, but Climax has all the extra [unnecessary] bells 'n whistles that come with modern day games, like achievements, unlockables, etc. :)

Climax even moves if you see it in the arcades.

Get both. After Burner Complete for the 32X is a damn good port, but After Burner Climax not only looks beautiful, but is even faster and more frantic than After Burner II.

Speaking of ports, may I suggest the Sega Saturn port of After Burner II? It's a direct port which is about the same as having the Sega X-Board arcade original. After Burner Complete is slightly downgraded as the game isn't as smooth as the Saturn port or the Sega X-Board original as After Burner Complete runs at 30FPS rather than 60FPS and has some instances of slowdown. Not to mention, After Burner Complete has no analog controls whereas you can After Burner II with a flight stick or any other analog controller on the Sega Saturn.

As an After Burner fan, I'd just buy any After Burner port I come across which is worth something, and I say go for both the 32X and Saturn ports. They're both good. And get After Burner Climax, you won't be disappointed.

I have After Burner Climax on PS3, it's a very good port from arcades, maybe even better. Just get both.
