There aren't many platform games on the 7800 so would Giana Sisters be possible on the 7800? The ST version didn't get a very good reception with that scrolling. And what about Nintendo with their pulling off the original Giana Sisters since it was a "better" version of SMB?

Well, Mario Bros is on 7800, so Giana Sisters wouldn't be a problem.
Nintendo rejected to Giana Sisters upon release in UK, and the C64 version was pulled (In Germany not).

A stock 7800 could easily do the game. Its a side scroller one screen high with not many enemies on screen at once. You'd probably have to do RLE compression on the levels and de-pack on the fly (on a per MARIA zone basis) or go straight for a 128K cart.

man I'd love to pokeyize the music, or use the 2151 on the expansion mod

Feel free! Just download RMT (POKEY tracker) and away you go.

Great idea but I think for mass apeal Super Mario Bros 1 would be a better choice.

Don't think GGS will happen even if it was released as a free to download game (since nintendo did stop the other versions from being sold as well, i.e ST/C64/Amiga etc) and i think nintendo would stop anything that looked or resembled a super mario type game

Interesting though that Nintendo didn't go after Top Byte (or at least, top byte were the programming team) who sold a game called 'super stario land' for the Atari ST/e

Anyone know what ever happened to the planned sequal to GGS

Perhaps someone could convert 'crownland' from the A8 and just add a few sprites and some parallax scrolling

A GGS (Gianna's Return?) game was just done for the Caanoo platform. I haven't heard anything about it being in trouble - it's still up for download (free).

It would be kind of neat to see Gianna, Maria, Mario and Luigi as playable characters with different stengths and weaknesses. Heck, thow in Sonic and Knuckles as hidden characters just for good measure.

Hard 'n' Heavy was the (unofficial) successor to Giana Sisters and was released for C64, ST and Amiga.

As far as the big N having a problem with Giana Sisters, I think that ship has sailed.

Don't forget the Giana Sisters DS game. I mean, that's on a Nintendo system, so I think they're okay with the IP existing, these days.
