This was my favorite magazine in it's heyday, and I still have the entire collection of it's first 7 years of publication. While it's not something most of us didn't see coming, it still sucks to see staples of gaming, like the arcade, leave us like this.

i used to love reading that mag in the 90s during the 16-bit wars. i can't say i've bought one in the past decade though.

Gamepro was THE magazine to read back in the day. I remember reading it from 8-bit times all the way to when the 32 bit systems came out. However, around that time it seemed like the best way to get news about upcoming systems/games was off the internet.

I am not surprised this happened, but I am sorry it's gone.

The demise of gaming magazines is pretty lame. When I was a kid I couldn't afford subscriptions. Now that I'm an adult with a paycheck the good mags are gone.

That being said GamePro was not something I enjoyed. The GameStop/Funcoland drones forced to hawk the magazine on me didn't help either.

I think you're confusing Gamepro(a great mag in the 80's/90's) to the in-house Funcoland rag called Game Informer. That was always a weak mag IMO.

It's sad to see icons from gaming's past go away whether it was something you partook in or not. I have a handful of GamePro mags from the 90s but I always preferred EGM and VG&CE. I guess I just didn't like GamePro's art direction. It was just bad, in my opinion. (VG&CE had some pretty bad covers but the rest of the mag was okay). I also didn't care for the Garbage Pail Kids-like names of the reviewers. I didn't get the point. Why not use real names? Of course, looking back, I would still rather read GamePro of old than any gaming mag that's out today. They look like all of the fun has been sucked out and all that's left are drab, boring visuals and snarky commentary. No thanks.

Never liked GamePro.

EGM was better. So were GameFan and Next Gen.

When I was younger, I started reading Gamepro as a supplement to EGM and VG&CE, then I discovered Gamefan (at issue #3) and started reading it. When I started adding in some PC gaming magazines, I eventually dropped Gamepro from my reading lineup on a monthly basis and went to a "whenever they had something interesting" basis.
