I've never been an early adapter. So I decided that this would be the year I joined the current Gen of systems. I've had a Wii for a couple of years, but have never really considered it to be in the same class as the PS3 or 360. I've enjoyed playing the Wii with my kids, but have wanted... more.

I have significant Microsoft bias, so a PS3 has been looming in my future for some time.

I bit the bullet and dove in today and picked one up with an Uncharted3 bundle.

I picked up a couple of used games at Gamestop as well.

Man. Talk about late to the party. THIS is what I was missing. Have been playing Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion this evening, along with a detour with Aliens Vs. Predator, some Uncharted too.

Just whoa. Wow. Can't wait to let the TIMESUCK of new, good games begin again. :)

My opinion is that if you don't care about online play too much, there's no problem with late adoption. In fact it's to your benefit, due to cost savings.

If you're not already aware, Aliens:Colonial Marines comes out sometime next year which is looking like a good year for us Alien fans. Dead Space is another game you may want to look into. It's cheap and combines a few elements and environments from horror movies like Alien and Event Horizon. Turok I thought was fun and isn't very expensive either. Plus it's one of the few dinosaur games that have been released. Jurassic: The Hunted is another dinosaur game. It was a budget title and is like a B movie. Killzone 3 is probably the best game to get into the series. It features good multiplayer and has a split-screen cooperative campaign, and the same goes for the first Resistance game. The Little Big Planet games is another series you may want to check out.

If you have an HD TV, you might want to check out a couple of Blu-Ray movies too if you don't already have some. The Blade Runner 5-disc edition and the Alien Anthology are must haves. Being a light Trek fan, I also bought the original Star Trek Season 1 on Blu-Ray a couple years back and it looks amazing.

If you like Oblivion, you might like Skyrim. It's more simplified, but then, you could wait a year or two and pick it up for $20 instead of its current price.

What kind of games are you interested in? I think Infamous looked like it would be awesome (GTA with super powers)

The Upcoming Aliens Colonial Marines was one of the reasons I decided to upgrade. :) I'll be picking up Arkham City, and would love to pick up Mass Effect as well.

I'm not a big fan of FPS, but the blended FPS/Adventure games like Fallout and Bioshock look great.

After playing tons of casual games and "lighter" Nintendo based platforming fare, I'm ready for a return to more adult titles.

Since it was the Christmas season, my first purchases were all old titles, with new titles making it onto my Christmas list. ;) I'll probably score the Uncharted Greatest Hits combo pack of Uncharted 1 & 2 as well.

Don't hesitate to give the Wii a second chance, especially if you like platformers. Donkey Kong Country Returns and New SMB Wii are first rate.

From what I've heard, Don't buy Skyrim for PS3 yet, well, at least untill they fix thier issues.

Borderlands is also a very good game.

Skyrim isn't that huge of a leap above Oblivion. Oblivion is a great game and you have many dozens of more hours ahead of you if you wish to keep playing it.

Might as well enjoy it and hold out for some price drops, bug fixes, and the inevitable GOTY edition that includes all the DLC released up to that point for the game before investing in Skyrim.
