Nothing confirmed but would anyone think this would be cool?

I'm trying to imagine Link in 1st person mode shooting stuff and slicing things with his sword. Hmmm...it could work.

I dont think it will ever happen and they dont mention anything about making it 1st person if they did do it but one can only imagine.

Miyamoto actually thought about making it 1st person during early development of Ocarina of Time (as was revealed in some "Iwata Asks" interviews for the 3DS remake). Even earlier in development, the game was actually structurally very similar to Super Mario 64; featuring only Ganon's castle as some sort of level(/dungeon)-select area.

But the whole 1st person thing was dropped when they decided to add the element of time. The decission was made because then they had to present different models for Link, and that's much easier for the player to get an overview of when the game is in 3rd person.

Still, Miyamoto claimed in the interviews that he loves FPS games (which is a genre that's not really too popular in Japan). The closest thing the Zelda franchise must have been one is problably "Link's Crossbow Training".

I, for one, would love to see a Zelda 1st person game made. I'm surprised they haven't yet.

Re: the 1st person vs. 3rd person issue -- They could always make a setting that allows you to control Link from the 3rd person perspective as well, and let the player decide.

Very interesting.

I'm not the biggest 1st person fan in the world but I love the Metroid Prime series as well as modern western RPG's (like Skyrim etc).

Sounds like those guys may be given the chance to do a Zelda game. I hope so.

I wouldn't be against a 1st-person Zelda. Especially if Retro is involved. They pretty much proved themselves with the Metroid Prime trilogy. It'd be worth a shot at least. Even if they failed, it couldn't be a bigger black eye to a series than Other M was.

I probably would have liked Zelda a lot more if they made it first-person, if only for having no more camera annoyances.

I'm semi-intrigued. But really I would be a LOT more interested in a new top down Zelda sequel to LTTP/LA.

And no, the DS Zeldas, and the Capcom Zeldas (including Minish Cap) don't count.

Sounds interesting but I have this sinking feeling inside that a first-person Zelda game would come off as a "poor man's Skyrim". And that worries me a bit.

we have enough first-person BS for them to ruin Zelda like that.

I don't see there being a significant difference for the Zelda series if it's 1st or 3rd person, so I don't care. Seeing just Link's arms and hands or seeing his entire body hardly seems like a significant difference.

But I'd love to see what Retro Studios could accomplish with the series.

I'm not sure where all this "first person Zelda" talk is coming from...

If it's only assumption because Metroid Prime was first person, even the article mentions that Retro have worked on Donkey Kong Country Returns and Mario Kart 7, both of which were third person.

If it's because of this closing statement:

Quote

Miyamoto's comments about Retro doing a Zelda confirm nothing, of course. But he is the guy who has said in the past that it was his idea to offer Metroid to Retro and suggested they make a first-person game.

I don't think that's how they meant it. It's trying to say that he suggested they make Metroid first person, and that that is what happened, so then maybe his suggestion that they make a Zelda game might also happen.

No there's no talk of it other than what you pointed out and that last line from the article. I was just making conversation. I think it would be pretty cool if they did a 1st person Zelda. My main thoughts are that I agree with what Nintendo & Miyamoto is thinking. I'd love to see Retro do a Zelda game. (1st person or not..doesnt matter)

Oh, gotcha.

First person Zelda would be interesting. I got Skyward Sword the other day, only got to play it a little bit so far, but I noticed they let you walk around while you're in first-person mode, now. It's kind of weird.

Yes I heard that, I cant wait to try it out. My copy just arrived this weekend. I heard its an "airworld" of sorts where you fly around and parachute down different areas. My friend also told me that it has a painters look to it for things you see in the distance.
