Gang, I'm a bit confused about something... I thought this board was supposed to alleviate the need for any soldering in installing
the Ultimate 1meg upgrade.

I was told last night that if I planned on using any cartridges I'd still have to solder a few wires and some resistors or something
like that. (because some carts misbehave?)

Can someone clear up my confusion? :)

Thanks!

Well, yes...really...

I had read those posts - but I missed in this thread where it made it
clear that even though you don't have to do any soldering, you still
have to do some soldering... I thought that was the whole point. :)

Sorry for any confusion.

Ronald,
it was even stated in PM sent at the beggining of preorder thread, that soldering is limited to 4 wires provided that you have OS ROM and MMU chip socketed already
revelations about resistors were reviled much later - not that i'm proud of it - wasn't my intention thats for sure

Hi DarkLord,

Candle ran into a situation where some carts tied R4 and R5 to +5V. That tends to do a number on the U1mb board. To avoid that he advised everyone to cut 2 traces on the motherboard and solder the supplied resistors inline. It was not part of his original design and was found I guess by accident when he ran into one of those carts and toasted a U1mb board. Luckily he did find that problem and figured a fix. My board is just an adaption of his instructions.

With this adapter you do not have to cut traces and solder the resistors on the motherboard. That mod is built into the adapter. Assuming you have a socketed MMU, all you have to do is plug this adapter in it and then candle's supplied MMU header. You will still need to solder the four wire connection for the U 1 mb Board itself according to his instructions, but that is far easier to do and a lot less potential to damage the motherboard. :)

I really like the last pic...only thing better is if you had set the boards up like domino's and made
a youtube video of them as they fell... :)

Hi Everyone,

I've had a family emergency and will have to delay the assembly for a few days. Candle made a suggestion about the headers and I agree with him. The delay should work out for the best I've got some replacement headers coming and they should be here in a couple/three days.

I'm very sorry. :(

Don't apologize. Take your time and sort out your family stuff - hope everything's OK.

I'm guessing turned headers?

Update: Assembly is about 3/4 done. Testing to make sure I didn't short something should take a few hours. Timeline right now is shipping out either Monday or Tues. :)

I see Candle has opened up a second run for the Ultimate 1mb board. As soon as I finish this batch I'll start another topic for preorder on my adapter if anyone else wants one.

I have decided to wait on installing my two u1mb boards until I can get these adapters. Should ease my installation pains some. :) I will be looking out for the next board run.

All the boards went out for US addresses today. International orders will go out tomorrow. The long line of people behind me who were sending flames with their eyes as they saw me pull package after package out of my bag to hand to the mail person convinced me that the better part of valor would be to return another day to finish the shipping, ;-) As it was my clothes were smoldering.
