...I find it particularly annoying that gameplay consists of running back and forth through the same pathways over and over again...

Funny to hear coming from a guy who named himself after Pacman.

har har ;)

What is a Pac Man but a miserable pile of secrets?! But enough talk! Have at you! Waka Waka

Seriously though, the game is just way too easy IMO. Its legendary status is well earned though because it just looks and sounds cool. I particularly like the design of the monsters and soundtrack.

The game has one of the worse ending theme songs of all time though. That's not just my opinion either lol ;)

There may be (at least) two types of Cattlevania types: Those who cowtow to 1/3/Super and those moo liked the exploration and RPG elements in 2 and SOTN.

Chew the cud on that for a moment.

I like both styles, but that's just me.

Well just my 2 cents but personally I always loved Castlevania in general, the theme and atmosphere but Castlevania on SNES really impressed me. When I got SOTN on the Playstation yes it was different and I did not know what to make of it at first, looked and sounded awesome for sure but I was not "feeling it" immediately but the more I stuck with it the more I felt just one more go until I was absorbed. Yeah like many the big surprise reveal about how much was actually left in the game and how far you had actually progressed was certainly one of my most memorable and "Woah REALLY?" moments right up there with Psycho Mantis reading my memory card saves in Metal Gear Solid lol!

I like both styles but I think the Castle-roid (yes, I'm going to call it that just to be different, ha!) is starting to wear thin. After three games in a row on the DS I'm a little satiated. It's time for Konami to revisit the classic Castlevania formula.

Can't forget the three games in a row from the GBA days, too. :|
