I picked up 2 Street Fighter 2 Champion Editon Hyper Edition machines yesterday. Both power up and play sound but no picture. I got them cheap so I wasn't too worried and if I can't repair them as they are I'll test the board and sell them and make MAME machines with the cabs. They are in pretty good shape.

What is the most likely cause for this and what should I do to make sure it is that and fix it? You can hear the attract mode running and all that there just isn't an image. If I can find a way to get them running I'm going to keep one and give the other to a local shop that has an arcade section (atleast that is the plan at this point).

Hopefully the CRT isn't totally spent. Could be a power issue or they need a recap job. Jus be careful probing around in there if you do.

check for this with the cabinet open and the lights off. on the glass neck that comes off the back of the tube itself right above the socket where the neckboard plugs into it, the heater is in there. assuming the neck isn't dirty with dust, you should see a semi visible orange/red glow.

also, the flyback (high voltage xformer) has two controls on it on a rectangular board that is connected to it via a wire. they are screen and control. screen is brightness. turn it up and you should get a picture or a white screen. if you do, then there's more likely an issue with the video signal getting to the monitor, or a problem with the color circuits on the monitor. if you don't, then there is an issue with the monitor.
