Hello! I just got this old Game Boy on eBay, and it has this 90's styled surf graphic on it, and I can not find any information on it. I just wanted to know if this was a special rare edition, or it was a customizeable faceplate back then?
When viewing the auction photo, I thought that this was some kind of Capri-Sun sticker decal at first. But upon recieveing this item in my hands, I found that it is a hard plastic printed decal. Just the same as the stock gray-bordered screen cover that is on the original game boy. My guess is that it might have been a customizeable faceplate that you bought, and you peeled off the old one and stuck this one on. But that doesn't really make all that much sense to me, seeing as the adhesive that holds these screens down is pretty strong. So, is this a rare edition or something that came this way from the factory? Any info about it would be appreciated! Thanks!

Never seen one of these before, are you sure it's not an aftermarket skin thing with the LCD cover?

I tried peeling the corners, it's not a sticker. One hard piece of plastic. The outer housing is the exact same as my other Game Boy as well, so that rules out it being a replaced housing. Same model number too. "DMG-01". I Googled in every possible keyword, but came up with nothing. Sorry if my original post is confusing, it's about 3 AM, and I'm pretty bushed. lol My thought is that it's an aftermarket custom "faceplate" that they had for sale back then. But, it's my belief that installing custom faceplates is supposed to be easy, so you can interchange them often....right? But this is securely glued down, so it does not make sense in my mind that you would be expected to break out a toolbox just to change the style whenever you wanted to. lol

While I haven't seen this exact one, I have seen similar aftermarket faceplates many years back. Interesting.

No, they're not very easy to change out, you basically destroy the one coming off of it so they get replaced only when they have to. It might be aftermarket after all. Really cool that it's still on it after all these years; most of the aftermarket ones I have known come off in a month or two.

Man that thing just screams early 90s. Throw in a backlight and give it a Hawaiian Punch style paint job and it'll be the most radical and bodacious gameboy ever.

Just a $5 gameboy..... that is a really cool screen, but it does'nt add much to the value. its definitely not a limited edition OEM from nintendo.
