Hey guys and gals!
What funny names did/do you 'type' in for yourself on arcade/cpu/console games? Please, in the interest of the moderators, put at least a single * or other such symbol in place of a flat-out obscenity ('cause I know there will be some in the names.. hey, I understand; I do it too! It's just funny!).

I used to put "P*ssyfart" as my name for Cloud in Final Fantasy VII. I thought that was pretty cool when I saw the baby birds in a nest with the materia and opted to leave the materia alone. Aeris looked at me, obviously touched, and cooed, "P*ssyfart.." Hilarious!

I usually use "Jack Flack", after the Dabney Coleman character in Cloak & Dagger. If it was an arcade game that only allowed three letters, I just put in my first name, since it's only three letters long.

In RPGs and adventure games a la Zelda, if I don't wuss out and stick with the predefined name, I tend to name my protagonists "PEDRO!" regardless of gender.

Since NHL 96 (Genesis) allowed for more letters than most games, I got "creative" and did V*ginal Secretions as one player's name. Yeast Infection was another. It was awesome to beat a team with these created characters, and then see during the final horn, PLAYERS OF THE GAME: V*GINAL SECRETIONS, YEAST INFECTION show up on the screen. Good times! :)

I had some good names for Wild Arms (PS) too.. P*nisboy and YouB*tch. One cool scene was where someone is trying to wake the latter character up while they were sleeping. They kept going, "Youb*tch.. Youb*tch!". :) You could also name your spells, so of course mine were called, like, RIM JOB or BLOW ME. :)

When I was 14, I was visiting my best friend, who had moved to the Santa Cruz mountains, over the spring break. We went out collecting bottles to take to the recycler one day (we would always do stuff like that, or odd jobs, to make some pocket money). I found a cinnamon schnapps bottle, and the brand was "Hot Damn!". I don't know why, but this amused the crap out of me. This was around the time that "X-Wing" came out for the DOS PC, so that night when we got back to his house and I started to play the game, I named my character "Hotdamn". Still have hat game save, too. Anyway, I ended up using that name for most of my game saves after that. I wouldn't name characters that, but when a game asked for the save to be named, that's what I'd pick.

Starting with Final Fantasy VII, I named all of my characters after my favorite hockey players. In that game, Cloud became Sergei, Barrett became Slava, and the darker-haired chick became Valerie (after Valerie Kamenski). Aeries kept her name. Red XIII became E.T. after my own cat at the time, and that psychic white thing that you meet in the casino/arcade place became "Dionne" after Dionne Warwick, who was at the time the spokeswoman for the Psychic Friends Network. I renamed other characters but I don't remember their names now. I did similar things in all future role playing games.

I used to have my main character in Chronicles of the Sword on Soul Calibur III named BIKER DUDE. I made him bald, with a long beard, with tinted glasses and leather pants and boots, and a sleeveless jacket unbuttoned, with no shirt on. It was kind of funny to see Luna cry out, "Why? Why can't I beat BIKER DUDE!!!" :P

The very best is NES Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, entering your name as any expletive. C*ck or D*ick are winners. So is P*ssy or Sh*t because so many of the characters refer to you by name ala "Aren't you Mickey's friend C*ck?" and Mickey encourages you on the pause screen by saying "______ Fight!" ala "Sh*t Fight!" I laugh every time.

in arcades, i always left my 3-letter high score mark in the form of "ASS". in RPGs i usually use either my own name (especially in the LoZ series) or the character's actual name.

One popular RPG name is "Phairnuf Rhyton". A co-worker would always respond to others opinions with "Fair 'Nuff!" and "Right on!". The name just sort of stuck.

I usually just use my initials or name if there are enough spaces, but one time some of my friends and I were playing Power Drive Rally on the Jaguar and I put in JED. Now J is my first initial so everybody thought that was normal and when they saw the E they thought I was going to put JER, but when I put the D everybody just kind of looked at each other trying to figure it out. Finally somebody asked and I told them Jed, you know short for Jedi. It's amazing how something so stupid can make a bunch a guys laugh like idiots, JED still gets brought up to this day occasionly among my friends.

Question: Why are people in this thread putting asterisks in the words. I've just never understood this. Does writing cockface as c*ckface make it any less offensive to someone who would find it offensive? I mean, it's not like we don't know what the words are. Isn't it the idea of the word the offensive part? Not the spelling? Is it not offensive if I call someone a dikfayce just because I misspelled it?

I don't find them offensive. Just asking why people do this. If you're afraid of offending someone, don't put it at all. I doubt someone who is offended by something like the word "cunt" is going to say "Oh, well at least they didn't put the u in it." if you spelled it "c*nt."

BTW, I understand if this is a way to get around a language filter. But is there one here?

Usually an asterisk (or three) is enough to make the word lost on the handful of children that may be viewing the forums, while still making sense for the rest of the adults here.

I guess. But I would imagine that any kids that are interested enough in old video games to come here and read posts is probably old enough that they'll be able to figure it out.

But I guess it is analogous to the black bars over nipples in porn (or pixelation or whatever).

Oops... guess I should have spelled that *n*logous... lol

Just trying to be moderator-friendly. If the mod(s) want to slacken the reins and allow anything, that's fine by me. If they want multiple asterisks to cover most of the letters in a profane word, that's fine by me too. We'd get the word either way. Even if they don't care about profanity (and I haven't seen any edits that I noticed on posts with profanity that I remember) I'll try to stay on the side of caution. Again, whatever they decide I'm cool with.

Depends on the kind of game...

Racing Games: Takumi Fujiwara
BattleTech Pods: K.C. Munchkin
Most other games: Animan

When I play video games with friends, I usually use the name "Atari", so they know who I am. Recently, I was playing an X-COM themed HeroQuest game, and I used the name "Darien Dash".

While on the topic, in Roller Coaster Tycoon it's fun to make a roller coaster that's too intense for anyone to ride, and give it some silly name.

Guest 154: "Burger Stall 1 looks too intense for me!"

When dealing with a 3 character limit, I'll usually go for the classics POO or ASS. Nice 'n puerile.

Generally I played the old arcades with only 3 letters.

So, FUC and FUK were staples. If I got a decent score I'd actually put initials in.

Of course, if your mate was 1 score above yours, then SUX was required there.

If I was playing Oregon Trail at school, I would typically use "D*CKHEAD" for my tombstone if nobody was looking. But I typically don't use anything profane on my own video games. I have band in Rock Band called "Crotchtallica", and I believe a football team in an older game called "Bathtub Sh*tter", but that's about it.

One of my friends and I usually are Bill and Ted. Not that funny, really, just something we do.

Back in the day, I would go into random QuakeWorld games on GameSpy as Satan's Poo and I'd just goof off/suicide/etc. I tried using it as my console FPS name with my friends, but Turok: Rage Wars had a character limit, so I shortened it to BadPoo. It still shows up every time I load up Perfect Dark, and I even decided to resurrect it for the 360 "remake".

If I'm playing something like EarthBound/Mother or Legend of Zelda, something where the characters already have names and are called that by NPCs, I'll always give them their real names.

My Guitar Hero/Rock Band bands are always called The Buts.

Except when I run out of ways to make money and have to make new bands, I'll vary them with The Buttes, The Butts, etc.
