There is a slot on the back of my two controller 5200 on the opposite side where the power and av cables are connected. Is this some kind of expansion port?

Yes. It's basicly an SIO port like on the 8-bit computers which use it to communicate to disk drives, printers, etc. Nothing was ever done with it. They were thinking of adding a computer keyboard and a music keyboard but they never happened.

Kind of a shame they didn't, but it probably didn't make sense when the 8-bit line was going strong.

There command line is missing, so only datasette can be connected, or Supercharger thru 2600 module.
