With a C64 and VIC 20 is there any reason to geta C128 or Plus 4 besides completeness? As I understand it neither was well supported in terms of software.

Don't forget about the C16 and PET's!

And nah... if you have a C64 and Vic20, you're doing fine. Specially on the gaming front.

Well a C128 looks nicer than a C64, and a few games do autoboot on the C128, eg Gunship, Ultima, some games have enhanced sound. Some British games are written especially for the 128 eg Rocky Horror, Kikstart
But true, they should have exploited the 128 more with special games, stuff, nuts.

Doesn't the C128 have 80 column support? That's a huge screenfull of text!

I bought a CIB C16 about 12-13 years ago as a curiosity, but yeah...you're pretty much covered (software wise) with a VIC-20 and C64.

When used through the digital RGB output and an appropriate monitor, sure. But only in 128 mode for the handful of productivity titles and maybe a text adventure or two. I doubt even the C64 PET emulator would even recognize that feature of the machine.

Yeah, I did a lot of my BASIC on my friends 128 because it was nicer to program on...
I'd rather have a 128 than a C64 at this point, but mostly because I think of it as a really really nice C64. ;-)

All you need is an off-the-shelf SuperCPU and an easy to find compact flash reader. Bam! C128 running GEOS 4!

Find an affordable SuperCPU. Or any "off-the-shelf" SuperCPU. <Thanks for nothing, Maurice.>

Alright, I'll passs on them then. I do have to admit that I like the look of the Plus 4. If there were any good hack mod upgrades I might still consider getting one but it seems like it starts out with some disadvantages compared to the C64.

Plus4 *is* a cool little system. Too bad it wasn't C64 compatible and called the C64+ or C64PLUS. Or something.

I really like the updated version of Elite that takes advantage of the 128. Much less flickery than the C64 version.
