I thought people who said 'twenny' also said 'hunnerd'? Example: "I play 'tari tapes on my 'tari twenny six hunnerd."

I think I'd open palm slap someone in the face if I heard them call the 2600, two thousand six hundred. ;)

Since there is no "26 100" in German language it was always the 2 1000 6 100 for me.

same.

Let me explain this, if I got a high score of 1900, that would be one thousand 9 hundred. Would Americans call that nineteen hundred?

They might. This stupid new forum software won't let us make a video start playing where we want, so you'll have to jump to 56 seconds yourself:

Upgrades are so wonderful.

It's too bad we can't palm-slap someone in the face over the Internet. I think it would solve a lot of problems if we could.

That's the way Nolan Bushnell usually pronounces it (he actually says "Twenny Six Hunderd", which is almost the same), so that must be the right way. For American southwesterners, anyway.

Unfortunately, that would translate to the Atari 2662.4; perhaps you meant "the 2.5390625k"?

It can go either way. It is up to the person.

Interestingly, the even thousands are always called such. Example- 2000 is never called "twenty hundred" (always "two thousand") but 2100 can be "two thousand, one hundred" OR "twenty one hundred"....

How bout the Double Thirteen Hundred? Or the Fifty One Fifty plus another Fifty? Or the Twenty Six by Ten Squared? Or the 26 Benjimens? Or the 2240 more than the 360?

Two thousand six hundred for Europeans, twenty six hundred for USAers. Everyone I know on the UK says it's the two thousand six hundred. But then USAers say 'gotten' and my UK friends say Americans can't speak proper English anyway.

Yes. We also do that when talking about the price of a car or while giving a bid at an auction. We also do it with the national debt because it sounds smaller with hundred at the end. Another thing we do is say that the age of the universe is one hundred thirty seven million five hundred thousand hundred years old to make the universe sound younger. Seriously, for us making thousands into hundreds is to say a number faster. It is an abbreviation like you're instead of you are. It is faster to say nineteen hundred instead of one thousand nine hundred because it is two less words.

Germans say 19 hundert achtzig and UKers say 19 eighty. Go figure.
