I just acquired a cartridge, Barbarian "the Ulimate Warrior", that I'm not sure if it is PAL or NSTC. The company on the cart is ERBE Software. The cart was advertised as XL/XE. In my 800XL, I get an intro screen asking for option input for players (1-2) and start button to start. But after pressing start the game just shows lines?
The cartridge has a switch on the side, and no documentation with the packaging. The cartridge is too tall and wide for 800 or 1200XL.

Any info would be much appreciated, thanx.

It's not for Atari 800/XL/XE series.

Was made in 1988 for Sinclair ZX81/Spectrum systems

If it was a spectrum cart would you get the initial options screen?

But he get the intro screen and Start is not a button on the Sinclair. My guess it might be 128K or if you have a NTSC system, it might be PAL, which would make the intro work maybe. Anything happen when you switch?

It actually looks like a SIC cart or other type of flash cart, maybe it's a port of the spectrum game

Wow, that's awesome. Judging by the logo, I suspect it's a flash-cart conversion of LK Avalon's Barbarian port (http://www.atarimani...barian_501.html). Since that was Polish production, perhaps it is PAL.

It'd be better of course if it actually worked for you, but the workmanship and art just of the cart and the label is impressive and has some value unto itself.

I recall Barbarian for Amiga, that was a raucous party game with a lot of laughs and very cool head-chopping move.

If I move the switch down, the cartridge doesn't do anything and goes to the BASIC prompt (800xl).
The cart has the same board fitting for Atari. It might be PAL but how does one confirm this?
I was hoping the switch would convert it.

The game has a box, game manual (though with no real information), all in English???

Also, the pictures on the box show the Barbarian game as:

http://www.atarimani...barian_501.html

I got it from France.

Please note that the funny thing about the picture, they are using what I believe was an 80's porn star.

That is definitely a SIC cart. The case, lines, and switch are identical.

ERBE was the main distribution games in Spain.
That 'ERBE' logo is their original.
ERBE and Spain doesn't have any A8 games.
Same the Palace software logo on the right side.

That is a fake. Good is, if you still have there the Polish L.K. Avalon game.

What I had thought was that someone picked up the rights and started making carts. The original release was on disk only I believe, maybe cassette. From Poland. I was hoping someone started making carts. The person that sold it to me says they ran it on their atari PAL computer & SECAM FRENCH computer. But thought it was NTSC compatible.

Can you dump the cart and have someone here try it on a NTSC machine to see if it's just you?

Maria Whittaker was a famous UK Page 3 girl (Sun newspaper page 3 features topless models). She never did porn.
Many UK Page 3 girls also starred in video games (Samantha Fox (Strip Poker), Maria Whittaker (Barbarian, Xmas Box), Joanne Guest (Love Bytes), Corinne Russel (Vixen), Many (Cover Girl Strip Poker)

Barbarian was a popular game by Palace Software (UK) available for C64 and lesser computers (ZX,CPC). It was released by Epyx in USA called Death Sword.
The sequel Barbarian II was also a big hit in UK. Released in USA as Axe of Rage

The was also Barbarian from Psygnosis, different game, available on ST, Amiga, C64

Barbarian-TheUltimateWarrior(ErbeSoftwareS_A_).jpg
That is the exactly ERBE spanish ZX, C64 and CPC paper but in english language, but I don't know if ERBE had any distribution in other countries.
From your screen it has 'gra' and it seems Polish words.

The cart might be 128KB? They said they ran it on a 128KB XE machine. Were you abel to get any of the images I created to work? I can try some more if needed.

Use the Siccart dump program found here at AA or search for Sic in the search feature.

Version v2 and/or v3 and/or v4 from here:

http://atarionline.p...9#Barbarian_(v1)

All of them should run on unexpanded Atari but probably the game has been freezed on PAL one.

Seems that someone has made golden business on it. :P

Thanx, I don't have the flash burner, etc. But it gives me the idea that this cart is 128KB or larger. I might need to get a high RAM 800XL then.
