Last night I decided to take myself up to the latest and greatest custom firmware because I was having some trouble getting a few games to start. (which they now do start) Before the upgrade, I was on '5.50 gen d3' and I "upgraded" myself to whatever the latest 6.60 firmware is. Then, a couple of my more important plugins stopped running.

Plugins causing issues:
  • FuSa, which does game video through either output cable, and has a (less than ideal) fullscreen zoom option can't seem to run in anything after 6.20.
  • I upgraded to the latest 'Homebrew Categories' variant, but it's failing too. It provides me 'folders' under my memstick icon to sort games into.
Questions:
  • Where the heck can I find 5.50 gen D3 firmware in this day and age. My first instinct is to go back, but I can't find it anywhere. Is there some important reason that I cannot locate it?
  • What's this 'prometheus' stuff that works with 5.50 firmware? Will I likely have plugin or game issues with it?
  • Does the OFW that my 6.60 CFW is based on provide any method for sorting games? Or is it the usual crapton of unsorted software in one spot? It seems odd that Sony would release so many tiny 'psp minis' and not provide a way to sort/organize the now massive list of games.
  • Has the video out improved at all with newer firmware? Can I do game video through composite/s-vid? Will component go closer to full screen?
I really liked the way my PSP was running before, and I think I'm probably going to downgrade back to 5.50, get all my plugins going again and then look into pushing 5.50 as far beyond its initial limitations as possible (or patching games). I think the short of it is that 5.50 was the height of PSP's success, and many of the homebrewers have long since abandoned their projects.

I run on firmware 6.20 with pro b9 perma patch and have had no issues. Running the Pro CFW I haven't had to worry about patching anything it all seems to work. Check http://wololo.net/talk/ or the GBAtemp forums. I would reccommend downgrading to 6.20 it is alot more flexible with hacking n patching then 6.60. There are no upgrade to playing on the TV even with component cables, still has black borders except on psx games.

I'll certainly look into it. 6.60 is really getting me down. Will FuSa run on yours? I can't remember if I read that it stopped working at 6.20 or if it wouldn't work on anything newer than 6.20.

Sadly no, FuSa doesn't work on mine and it doesn't look like its being developed any more.

Even though its old, i still run M33-6 on my 2000, and can't be happier with it. I do not think (i could be wrong) that M33 is a option for newer models of PSP. in my eyes newer isn't always better. functionality is the reason why i stay at M33. FuSa is one of a few plug ins that i use on my PSP, i absolutely can not do without it.

I'm really in agreement on that one. With my wireless controller on the way, I don't want to cut out any level of tv-out functionality.
Last night I finally found full 5.50 Gen D3 firmware and downgraded. Everything's running exactly as I want it to, aside from Sega Rally Revo (requires 6.31) which prompted my upgrade in the first place. I'm still looking into the 'prometheus' 5.50 addons which make run games that normally require 6.20. As long as it doesn't break FuSa, I'm for it. I can live without a few late-release games.
