Actually, the thread should read "Am I a dumbass?". :)

Today I met up with a local seller and bought a PSP (2000), with an 8 gig card, also the FF Crisis Core, CIB. The system has been modded and loaded with emulators, though no ROMs. Came with a charger. I paid $70. The catch is that the unit looks pretty beat up, to the point where I may replace the screen and paint the back. Everything does work without issue.

Am I a dumbass? You be the judge.

I dunno, that's not too bad. For another $30-40 there are plenty of shops that will swap cases and put in a new screen. I was just at a local guy's shop yesterday here in Denver who offers such a service.

I think it's a good deal! I've been considering upgrading from my GBA SP backlit to a PSP so I can play ATARI and SNES emulators - - the one area that the GBA SP fails in!

It wasn't a fantastic price, but you didn't get ripped off either.

Given the fact that the system is trashy, I'd say it probably wasn't worth it. But if you get some serious use out of it, then that's what counts I suppose.

All in all I'm happy, the firmware and emulatora are very easy to use/load. GBA emulation
is flawless. I'll have fun with it.

A couple of months ago I bought a pretty decent PSP-1000 with a 2GB card, charger, and everything in good shape for $60. I thought that was a decent deal.
I couldn't get custom firmware loaded, so I paid a local mod guy to do so for me for $15.

I'd say you paid about the going rate.
