Hi everyone,

Not sure if this might have been mentioned in another post but i found out that Sonic CD was released a few months back for iOS. It was available i guess during December for $2 on the app store but the game has now gone up to $5. It is still worth the $5 in my opinion as it is spot on to the original.

Just thought i left others know about it in case they were not aware of its release.

I initially dismissed this one as another Genesis ROM posted on iOS/XBLA/PSN for a premium, but then I actually saw the game in motion - the time and care put into the widescreen support, the dual soundtrack support, and the options and unlockables - and now understand that this is a really great release. I played it and instantly thought: "Wow. Sonic was once this good?"

Does it run fullscreen? When I tried, it ran at phone res up in the top-right quarter of the screen.

Yes, you can have it run full screen. There should be a icon at the bottom right of the screen with 4 arrows pointing outward that gives you the choice to expand it to fill the screen.

Count me in as someone who expected it to be a half-assed port. I honestly couldn't be happier with the end result. I bought it for iOS and PS3. Now if they'd only add iCade support for the iOS version, it would be perfect!

In defense of Sega's past releases of things like Genesis games, they were all priced at 400 points. Felt like I've gotten my money's worth out of the ones I've bought, although this effort certainly blows away those barebones releases.

I bought Sonic CD on Xbox 360 via Live, on day one. Caf Jr has played it much more than I have (he has more time!) , but we both agree its awesome. widescreen, nice clean look to the graphics with 3 graphical filter options, both NA and J soundtracks, and obviously improved 2D and 3D frame rates/animations here & there.

Not sure of the portable versions.

Has anyone played the entire game in one sitting? I remember playing the original Sonic and it took about 2 hours to play the entire game through.

The first night I bought it I made it a point to finish it. I think it took me roughly 40 - 45 minutes with a little bit of exploring involved, as well as dying several times in the last few stages. It will probably take longer if you are trying to perfect the bonus stages and get all the time stones (lots of trial and error involved there), but less as shown in the post above if you try to speed run it.

Thanks for the video. It looks like he is playing the actual Genesis CD as opposed to the current remake but at least i have an idea about how much time at a minimum it might take to win. It would be nice if i could do an actual save so i can go back to points when i mess up. Maybe they might consider adding something like that at a future point.

I'm running the iPad 2 version and it's excellent! Such a well made game, even with touch controls

It's in widescreen and circular objects still look circular. So I believe it's this XBLA/PSN release in that video.

He's playing the port found on the Sonic Gems disc. You can tell because it has the loading screens from the PC version, whereas the XBOX port doesn't have those (it basically loads instantaneously). It also looks like he happens to be playing it on a widescreen monitor or TV of some sort. On the IGN review, they have a video of what the game should look like in proper widescreen mode: http://xboxlive.ign....?_cmpid=ign1392

Another thing to note for those that aren't on a HD TV, the game will cut the wider playfield and will look identical to the original Sega CD game (i.e., no letter boxing, and no scrunched playfield). :)

I've got it for both my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S) and the iPad. On both platforms, the game is very well done, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the controls work, in spite of being touchscreen-based.

I don't have any kind of smartphone, but I've got Sonic CD on the Mega CD. Best Sonic game there is.

If you look at my screenshot, you'll see the icon I'm talking about. You don't have one like that? What Android tablet are you using?

Thank you! No, I don't have an icon like that, but I do have the Android 2.3 / Cyanogen Mod 7 equivalent, which I hadn't thought to try. Runs fullscreen now. Thanks again!

This just reminds me of something I hate, every time they release a classic game say on PSN (I have a PSP btw) you can't play it on anything but a PS3.

There are quite a few classic game rereleases playable on both. The PSP Minis program has well over a dozen classic arcade arcade games that are available. And Neo Geo and TurboGrafx-16 downloads are playable on both.

And every PSOne download.

I believe Everyday Shooter is one that can be played on both as well. Awesome game, BTW.
