OK, I have a dumb question for you all. The original PlayStation's abbreviation. Is it PS1 or PSX? I've seen both.

When the playstation was out, it was the first and there was no PS2, so it wasn't called the Playstation 1, it was just the Playstation. Sony didn't like this being shortened to just PS, so they unofficially pushed an X on the end. Now today it is commonly referred to as the "PS1" in speech.

Either way is fine. I'll say "PS1" but I'll write "PSX"

The PSX is what the original Playstation is often referred to as an abreviation. PSX is usually used to refer to the original version of the console. PS1 refers to the console line in its entirity. PSone refers to the 2nd edition PS1.

I believe originally it was simply called the "Playstation", this was the gray model. Then in the summer of 2000 the PSone was released, optimized for easier portability along with a newer graphical interface. The PSX on the other hand is a common misconception; this was a Japanese exclusive Playstation and DVR hybrid.

So in short:
Playstation for original release.

PSone for second generation Playstation.

PSX for the DVR hybrid.
