Hi there,

I am helping out a friend with fixing his PS3. He was essentially given what he thought was a “bricked” PS3 console. It is a “fat” console, with a manufacture date of March 2007. It has 4 USB ports on the front. I am guessing that this console is an 80GB version, though I’m not sure. At any rate, here’s the problem that I’ve found so far. I took the console out of the box it came in, and tried to plug it in to the wall socket, and also my TV. I was expecting a YLOD issue. However, when I plugged in the power cable to the jack on the back of the console, it was loose. The jack was loose. And I could not get the machine to power up, at all. Would a “loose” power supply be something that could ordinarily be fixed by tightening it up again, or is this symptomatic of a ruined power supply requiring a replacement? And does anyone have any recommendations as to where I should get a replacement power supply?

Take the ho apart and see for yourself; if the plug's loose, it's fairly likely that it could be fixed with a quick solder job.
