I've heard tell of the 600XL RAM expansion (the 1064) having never been officially released. Apparently someone found a whole warehouse of them, and now they're fairly cheap. Is this true? Were there any other external RAM expansions for the 600XL that were released?

I never saw one in the wild, though it was common to see 600XL's with 64K (after-market upgrades or internal modifications). I remember seeing a very slim parallel-bus product, but I can't remember the manufaturer.

I worked for a retailer who sold tons of 600XL's and we never sold any kind of expansion for it.

Hello Zedex

They were released, aren't very common, but far from rare. Flashjazzcat even uses it's case for is SIO2SD's.

Hello bbking67

The guy you're thinking about might by "ctirad". But ctirad's upgrade add's at least 320kB and simulates the uses of $D301 (the address the 130XE uses), but doesn't pass-through the PBI. The 1064 add's 48kB by deselecting the 600Xl's 16kB and switching in 64kB. It practically changes your 600XL into a 800XL. You can plug PBI devices into the 1064. (Not sure if you can plug ctirad's expansion into a 1064, but if it works correctly, it should be possible)

I had one in my first Atari (600xl). I didn't know they where rare. Maybe they are common in europe? I remember the video signal was distorted when using the 1064.

For shame... it's probably one of the only cases the IDE Plus could be shoehorned into. :)
