Bought a boxed Double Dragon 7800 on eBay the other week. Below is a link to the item, listed as "Good" condition with "some fading + discoloration to label" There was no picture of the cart in auction.

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 220927983187

Seller was nice, promptly shipped in a box as I requested. However, the box had some crushing on the right side (not pictured, but I can live with that) and the cart was significantly discolored. Picture included. I don't feel this meets the description and is not collectable.

Sent email to seller letting him know I am not happy with condition and thinking of returning or possibly leaving less than positive feedback -- awaiting response.

What do you think? Am I being too picky for price? What would you do?

EDIT: Put in the correct purchased item -- the other was a comparison.

I'm confused, the link you posted is to a currently listed item that has a pic and is clearly in better shape, maybe the link was the wrong one?

But in any case, I would say looking at what you got, I'd insist on a refund and sending it back. That's just an awful looking label, cheap or not (what did you pay?), I wouldn't have that in my collection. Was the auction "as is" or was there a return allowance? If it wasn't an "as is" auction, you may be able to force him to give you a refund through ebay / paypal. They're very buyer happy as a rule, unless it was listed as an "as is" auction, in which case you may be screwed.

Found what I think is the one you're talking about, $30 with stock photo and "game is in "good" condition, some fading and discoloration". Says he gives refunds within 7 days, I'd make him do so. It's obvious why he didn't post a photo of this one.

Depends I guess on what you paid for it and what you expected. Why not just ask the seller if you can return if for full refund if you are not satisfied with it.

The reason is because the box is in decent shape and isn't real easy to find plus I am out the $5 and hassle to ship it back. Yes, just shipping it back is still a solution, although I feel a bit gipped by the description. Another part of me just thinks to just eat it, leave less-than-positive feedback and look to pick up a replacement cart on another auction.

Personally, I would have passed without pictures in the auction other than the eBay stock item picture. They do come up occasionally, new in box for around $50 on eBay. That is $20 more than you paid for this one. By the time you buy a cart in good shape from eBay you will be out somewhere between $15 to $30 just for the cart. If you are happy with the box, you could always contact him and let him know that you didn't expect the Cart to be that badly discolored and maybe he will be willing to work something out with you. If the seller isn't willing to work out a discount or return with him paying the return shipping, you can always file an item not as described with eBay. Pain in the butt and draws it out but would at least get it returned for full refund including shipping probably. Not sure, you would have to check but I think in most cases eBay either pays or requires the seller to pay for return postage on items not as described. But always, politely contact the seller through the eBay mail system and try working it out before filing anything.

Personally I would ask to return the whole thing and start over but that is a decision you have to make for yourself.

Based upon the sellers description, I dont think that there should be any complaints. "Good" is subjective and trying to look at it from a non-collector point of view it is adequately described. I must not be as picky as others. I wouldnt have a problem adding that to my collection.

I went through something similar recently with a group of Sears boxed games. They were shown in the picture from the side and listed as some tearing and rips. They were some rarer games, so I purchased. When I got them, almost the entire front and back had the covers ripped (pulled) away on several of them. I was disappointed, but in the description she had mentioned rips so legally I didn't feel that I had justification for complaint. I gave good feedback although I was very dissatisfied.

The seller accepts returns, if your not happy you can return it. It will cost you $3-4 to ship it back. The description said discoloration, so it was noted.
You could haggle for return shipping and as for feedback just don't leave any. I didn't leave feedback few times because I wasn't totally happy, but it didn't warrant Neutral or Negative.
It just depends if you really want to keep it.

Thanks for all the input. I emailed the seller stating (politely) that I was not happy with the condition of the cart and that I wanted to return the item. He was nice about it and emailed back giving me the option to a) return it -- even offering to pay the return shipping or b) give me a partial refund.

I decided to take the refund because the box was worth the money and I didn't want to hassle with the return shipment.

I left positive feedback for the seller.

I guess I was leery about the transaction after reading so many threads here about "jerk" sellers and "extortionist" buyers. But this turned out well. In the future, I will only bid on items were I see a pic of the item.

eBay is a pretty rough place these days, but it's still possible to find good sellers that are willing to work with you on issues. Glad it all worked out well.

I never buy games with a stock photo only....especially if they are for a boxed collection.
