I placed an order for this controller before Christmas from the Legacy website, despite all the scary comments I read about it on Amazon regarding shipping issues and quality problems back when it was offered on Amazon. After contacting him and asking if I would receive it by Christmas, and after his assurance, I placed the order. I then received an email before Christmas stating that his entire order was stolen and was unable to ship the orders in time, and would offer a discount to all those who still wanted it shipped after Christmas.

I contacted him and requested to cancel the order as it was meant as a gift. I thought that was the end of it. Yesterday, however, I received the joystick in the mail and realized that he charged my credit card, even though I had cancelled the order weeks ago. AND - he didn't give a discount either. To top it off, I have been unable to get this to work in Stella after testing it.

Has anybody had any experience getting this to work in Stella? It is supposed to just work as is with no drivers required. I plugged it in and Windows 7 automatcally installed drivers and said the USB input device is now ready to use. Does Stella need to be configured for this to work? I use the 2600-dapter which works great with my original Atari joystick. I'm mad enough as it is that I was charged after I cancelled the order - but even more since this doesn't seem to function correctly. I would advise people to steer clear of this seller. I ordered the 2600-dapter around the same time and that arrived in just a few days and works fantastic. I even bent the pins by mistake and he replaced the damaged unit for me free of charge - that's what I call customer service and I would highly recommend it to anybody interested. Steer clear of Legacy.

Can anybody offer any information on getting this to work? I have a feeling trying to contact him for a refund will be difficult or impossible so at least if I could get this to work that would be something.

I can't speak to the reliability of the seller, so I'll concentrate on the Stella part of your question. Stella contains specific support for the Stelladaptor/2600-daptor, so it's no surprise that it worked out of the box; that was kind of the point :)

However, the USB stick you have is (to Stella) just a normal joystick. As such, you may have to 'map' the directions and button on it. This is pretty easy, and is a one-time operation. Have a look at the relevant section in the Stella manual. The events you're concerned with are P0 Joystick Up/Down/Left/Right/Fire.

EDIT: Incidentally, normally you wouldn't even need to do this. However, if you have several joysticks plugged in, Stella assumes one is P0 and the other is P1. IOW, if the USB joystick was the only one you had, this wouldn't be an issue. Now, if you do the remapping and it still doesn't work, then you have a problem. We'll talk about that later, if you encounter it.

Thanks very much for the info. I had a logitech wireless controller plugged in and I think it was detecting that. I unplugged it and plugged in the joystick and it works fine in Stella now without any configuration. At least if I decide to hang onto it I know it works in Stella now.

Thanks again.

I'm glad you were able to get your joystick working! I never was as mine had a bad USB plug on it. Unfortunately, after I sent it back, I still have never received a replacement or a refund, and this after more than a year of emails and trying to convince the guy to send it. He always promises he'll get the replacement out "tomorrow" and has even promised to send a better model, but I'm not expecting to ever get anything from the guy. I've just decided to write it off and accept that I got ripped off. But I am telling everybody I can to be VERY wary about doing business with the guy.
