I found a Freeway cart in a thrift store. The cart looked nothing like my Activision Freeway cart, so I shelled out the $2.99 for it.

On this site, it says that this was a Zellers cart.

I am Canadian, and Zellers stores still exist, but I do not recall anyone having these carts back in 'the day.'

Were they ever released in the U.S.? Do U.S. collectors actively pursure these?

Also, is there any difference between the Acitivion Freeway and Zellers Freeway cart beyond the lable?

Finally - HOW COULD THEY GET AWAY WITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS?

As far as I can tell, they are the same game!

@farquh - also, if you do a search in the 2600 for Zellers, all sorts of great info and conversation come up.

That explains it a bit.

But I wonder why they changed the names of just a few? I wonder what the reasoning behind leaving Freeway as Freeway, but changing Defender to Earth Attack, etc.

Okay, so if there is anyone who is looking to trade for a Zellers Freeway cart please let me know. It's available.

The only difference is that the Zellers version does not display the Activision logo onscreen.

AFAIK Zellers carts were released in Canada only.

The reason "they" got away with this, is because "they" were Taiwanese.

You mean Zellers placed a order with a company in Taiwan to make the games?

They also got away with it because it wasnt the US. The Taiwanese were a LOT more careful about selling pirates in the US than anywhere else in the world
