Not to totally deviate from the main topic here, but how do you all feel about names being written on carts? I actually kinda like it as long as it's not a particularly rare cart. It's a bit of character, and it's nostalgic to remember what sorts of things kids did to differentiate their carts from their friends. I have a couple NES carts with "WESLEY" written on them in very neat handwriting along the edge of the label. I like to think it was a parent who wrote it for their kid who asked them to do it.
I think it gives the cart history. But I'm Mr. Anal when it comes to stuff like this. So in the past I've removed markings from my carts, thereby erasing "history". Mixed feelings on that, actually.
If you get a used game with a name written on it, it's not like it's your history your erasing. Also if the game was so important to the person who owned it, wouldn't they have kept it over the years? Them selling the game is eraseing their own history.
My cousin when he was a kid used to write his name on games. But they really weren't important to him. He was the type that only wanted the newest consoles. So when a new console would come out, he would sell the system he had so he could have money to buy a new console. Heres an example when Sega CD came out he wanted it more than anything. He then sold his NES which was unhooked in a box in a closet so he could have enough money, he then bought a Sega CD thinking it was the coolest thing ever. Then when the add on wasn't doing so good he sold it. In more recent years, hes talked about how he wants to get back the consoles he had when he was a kid. I don't think he really wants the systems for nostalgia or fun. By the way he talks he seems to want the consoles again because he thinks they will be super hard to find and collectable one day. I don't think he realizes how the systems he had will never be near as rare or expensive as he thinks they will be. From what I remember in his lifetime he didn't have any rare systems, just the major consoles.
