Hey guys,

In my gaming room i'm thinking of getting a flashback, as much as i love my 2600, i just feel its effort to boot up the carts sometimes, I do have it set up on one of my small portables but figured a flashback would be a good compromise for my Trinitron TV.

So my question is, which version of flashback would you say is the best and why

Definitely the Flashback 2. Of all the versions of the Flashback, that was the only one to feature the real games running on the real hardware (or at least a modern re-implementation of the original hardware), so outside of using a real 2600, the Flashback 2 offers the most accurate presentation of the original 2600 games. The Flashback 3 that is currently available is a simulation of the original 2600 hardware and is not completely accurate, while the original Flashback was based on a Nintendo chipset and featured "re-creations" of the original games, which again are not completely accurate.

Best flashback I always get is when I reminisce about the 70's and 80's. You know, back to a time when kids didn't consider popping a cartridge into their system too much effort. :ponder:

There's no real substitute for a real 2600. Especially if you already have one. Just get a Harmony cartridge, load a bunch of games on your SD card and enjoy selecting games from its onscreen menu. Doesn't get much easier than that...

i prefer the Sega Genesis version myself, although I haven't played the PC version, that one could be better.

Yes but you see my trinitron can't tune the 2600 properly! and i don't want to butcher my 2600 for the AV mod, which is actually more difficult on a Pal machine then NTSC machine

I see! Said the blind man.

Well, what country are you from? I'm sure folks in Germany, Poland, Australia and U.K. (at the very least) are willing to perform this mod for a price. Depending on where you live and if it's economical to do so, maybe you could simply send them your 2600 to have it done?

I'm casting a vote for the 2+ if you can get one. But you'd have to modify it. Why? More Atari-original titles (and a third bonus game for paddle controllers).

The Flashback 2/2+ was never released in a PAL version, so that may cause you problems. However, you can run PAL titles on it if you mod it to take a Harmony cart.

Right guys, i'm going to get myself a +2 from the states on ebay.com, but does anyone on these forums offer a service to mod or can anyone here mod one with a cart port for me? i could ship it from the seller to said person then pay for them to mod and ship it to the UK

And just in case you can get one...
I prefer the 2 to the 2 + as the 2 has River Raid and Pitfall!, and I believe the 2+ does not, and replaces them with sports titles.
