As a lot of you probably already know. SNK is going to be releasing a new Neo Geo handheld. I've been reading articles about it all day, and came across one I thought would be worthy of discussion on here. It is by far the worst one I have read.

At the begining of the article, the person said he went to a thrift store about 15 years ago, and bought a Neo Geo for $1. Can anyone else smell that BS from your computer screen? I couldn't imagine anyone getting one for that much then or today at any thrift store. Especially since a lot of thrift stores now base they're prices off of ebay. Then he says he felt like and still feels like he over paid for it. Have you ever heard such overexaggerated douchebaggery in your life? If by some miracle he actully did get the console for a dollar, he should know how great of a deal that is.

Then towards the end of the article he said, "Neo Geo games aren't exactly the most sought-after titles." Are you f***ing kidding me!!!
Since when does sought after become hypinated? I guess some of the rarest games for the system going for prices well over $1000 isn't rare at all. If he is seriously going to say that, then it seems like in his eyes Air Raid on 2600 would be a uncommon game at rarest.

You can tell this guy didn't know anything about what he was talking about. Theres already comments on the page saying the same thing. Another thing, guessing by the picture of him. He only looks around 25 or so. If thats true, I doubt he was even able to remember very much of the Neo Geo when it was new. Reading over the article again, and judging by all of the crap he copied and reprased from wikipedia. He still seemingly doesn't know or remember hardly anything about the system. If he knew anything about the it, he would know how much of a great of a deal he got.

For once could a news based site make a decent article about a failed video game system. One that isn't written by some douchebag that doesn't know what they are talking about.

What does everyone else think about this. I'm curious to see what all of the hardcore Neo Geo fans of this site have to say.

It obviously sounds too good to be true, but realistically, anything is possible when thrifting.

Since always, and it's called a hyphen, not a hypin.

I've always known how to spell hyphen. I made such a long post, it just slipped past me.

Thats ture. But back in 1997 who would have let a Neo Geo go for $1?

anything is possible and if so yeah just someone who knows nothing about classic games collect-ability or value. Other ignorant people will agree with him and those "in the know" like us will just laugh, no big deal.

I've never seen any game system for $1 at thrift, and it's hard to imagine one that I wouldn't think would be worth that price.

15 years ago neo geo was just starting to hit its stride. I don't think there was an arcade in the country that didn't have at least one. No way I could afford one back then.

My guess is that the article is trolling for hits, and it's working out well.

I was thinking that myself. Eventhough the article sucks, maybe it will make a few people who don't know much about Neo Geo interested in the handheld.

I bought a working Intellivision for $1 at a thrift. Granted, it was 12 years ago or so, but the point is it happens. :P

I guess if I did buy a $1 neo geo, it would bum me out a little bit when I tried to buy a game for it and had to sell a kidney.

Or it could be that one of those 'unique' individuals that spend time at a specific neo geo forum is having a bit of fun.

How about you sell your kidney and get an MVS loaded with Mr. Do Neo., League Bowling, Samurai Shodown, and Shock Troopers instead? That would be cool.

I think a thicker skin is in order. Its a video game system, not libel about your mother. If you enjoy the system and games, that's all that matters. Who gives a crap what anyone else thinks.

Well since NE146 hasn't posted yet, I'll suggest that what is really needed is 4X thicker skin. :D aka four skin.

Play with your joystick if it makes you happy.

I did have a dream once that someone was buying Neo Geo AES games for $5 each at a thrift, and I got there just to watch them grab them up and pay before me. That handheld looks nice but it will certainly be emulation. Give me the real thing any day.

The "bought it for $1" comment seems like a clumsy joke made by someone who doesn't know anything about videogames and googled all of his info.

"
Those of us old enough to remember the Neo Geo might recall some of the games reportedly coming to the device, including "World Heroes," "King of Monsters," and "Fatal Fury." The portable will even come with "Baseball Stars Professional."
If those games don't sound familiar, there's good reason for that. The Neo Geo AES, a console SNK released in 1990, was never able to become a mainstream hit, due mainly to its $650 price tag at launch."

The Neo Geo console wasn't a mainstream hit, but the games have been widely ported to other consoles such as the SNES, Genesis and PS2, and Neo Geo arcade machines were all over the place in the 90's.

A game is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it. A game doesn't have to be all that rare to command a high price, or vice-versa.

I'm not sure why you're so hot under the collar over this article. The Neo Geo has some good games, but it ain't all that. Who cares what some article writer thinks?

Hi guys,

Not only was the writer a shrimpwimp, but was retarded as well (excuse my language). $1? really? Well I would like to see this guy on the neo-geo.com forums! They'll definitely make him reconsider his thinking of SNK!

Naturally, some individuals has to learn a hard way!

Neo Geo had some really solid games, but they just went so overboard with the 2D fighters.

But no sequel to Magician Lord? Nam 75?

And where are the original titles?

There was so much potential for other genres of game that went wasted.

In all honesty. The article really didn't bother as much as it appeared to, and I probably should have waited a little bit before typing up the thread. I do admit I was a little annoyed reading someone acting like they got ripped off when they got a great deal, and I didn't like the person saying that the games arn't sought after. But I wasn't furious like I appeared to be in the first post.

I probably came off as a die hard Neo Geo fanboy or something which I'm not. I have played several Neo Geo arcade machines growing up, and I did at one point own a Neo Geo Pocket Color. While I did enjoy the Neo Geo games I've played, I don't consider myself much of a Neo Geo fan.

Also I really don't care what his opion is on Neo Geo or any other system. I don't let anyones negative opion on something I like, get in the way of my good time enjoying anything.

You know its very possible he was refering to a Neo Geo Pocket Color, it is an article about a hand held after all. Unless he specifically stated it was an AES I wouldn't be surprised if he meant a NGPC and just got the years mixed up. If he is refering to a NGPC then his statement is very plausible(I've seen original gameboy colors at thrift stores for not much more then that) and the statement about the games being not much sought after would also be true, they aren't very hard to get.

Thinking about it, your probably right. Because like you said he didn't say it was the AES, and NGPC games arn't to expensive to collect for.

This guy is something of a turd, but I can't say I care too much. It is clear he isn't into gaming. He might think he is but like I try to tell so many people around me, playing COD doesn't make you a part of the hobby.

What I can say is I want this thing. I looks good and anything Neo Geo has a home with me. Can't wait to hear more.

It looks like a photo shopped iphone, snk playmore have not made any official announcement and it looks like it's being manufactured (if ever) by another company just with the neo geo stamp on it.

And just because you don't know about neo or whatever (insert any old console) doesn't mean you are any less into games. I know people only into modern games, but they play and buy way more games than I do. Having some sort of gamers snobbery is absurd.

The article sucks, but a lot of net journalism is awful.

Well, I got a Neo Geo AES with Magicial Lord and 2020 Super Baseball for $60 at a thrift lol. Sixty something Neo Geo games and a two slot cab later, and I can tell ya they are sought after indeed.

And that article is pure internet twaddle.

I hope that gizmo turns out to be something like the dingoo (i.e. decent). I'd love to get my KoF/Metal Slug/Samurai Showdown/Last Blade/ Shock Troopers fix on the go!
