Probably Mario Bros.
The Atari version of that game doesn't really get noticed too often. I myself was shocked when I found out it actually existed.
Also, Midnight Magic is pretty addicting. It also shows off some impressive graphics for the 2600.

One of my favorites is Space Cavern! I really like how you have to shoot the aliens above and the monsters that come from the side.

Well, that one doesn't actually exist if that's a requirement but it is largely unheard of outside of my head.

OMG what a question....

Here's the deal... I'm 33, so I was a but too young to really remember the Atari in its hayday. When I was about 13 my uncle gave me his old Atari which started a collecting hobby. Not having the benefit of the internet all I knew of the game library was what was in the Atari and imagic catalogs he had and what I found in the wild.

So to me many well known games are "unheard of to me". Nevermind games like Custer's revenge,
I'm talking about games like demons to diamonds and Enduro. Hell the only developers I knew of were Atari/Sears, Activision, Imagic, Fox, Parker Bros, Coleco.

Its only been since the last year my Atari love has been rekindled and I'm discovering common titles I've never heard of and I owe it all to atariage!

To answer your question... Enduro

For me, it's No Escape by Imagic. Very, very different gameplay mechanic where you're knocking blocks out of the ceiling, and those blocks destroy the floating enemies. If you hit one directly when trying to knock blocks out, you cause it to multiply.
