Hi Claus B

Do you still have the CTIA Card that would have came in that machine??

By the way read this

CTIA / GTIA
CTIA ("Color Television Interface Adapter") / GTIA ("George's Television Interface Adapter") is a television interface chip. ANTIC directly controls most of GTIA's operations, but the 6502 can be programmed to intercede and control some or all of GTIA's functions. GTIA converts the digital commands from ANTIC (or the 6502) into the signal that goes to the television. GTIA also adds some factors of its own, such as color values, player-missile graphics, and collision detection. Early 400/800 models included CTIA, later 400/800 models and all later 8-bit Ataris included GTIA. In BASIC, type POKE 623,64 [RETURN] and if the screen blackens, you have the GTIA chip. If it stays blue, you have the old CTIA chip. By the way, apparently no CTIA-equipped Ataris were shipped to Europe.

Thanks
Sean

We discussed the silver / gold embossing / stamping in the old thread. I also discussed there the possibility that mine is from 1979 but I could not prove it.
Opn your computer. look on the main board and see if you see chips with dates like 7941 ,or 7943 or if you just see alot of chips with date codes
from 1979 in your computer that would make a huge difference.

I posted the answer in the old thread. Why don't you read it?

Mine could be a 1979 machine, but the old thread showed no definite 1980 date codes. I bought it in December, 1980, so all I can claim for sure is it's 1980 at the latest.

If you can get people to post their 800s' serial numbers, then maybe we'll see a difference between 1979 and 1980 and then we can know for sure.

Well, my daughter needs $100,000 for college. How much you got?

Hi ClausB

I do not have that kind of money around, but it sounds like you have a pretty old machine.

I did see someone who claim to have a original 1979 machine and it did have the correct type card in the
Memory slots. The covered one and the CTIA card. He was asking $479.00 for his.

So I figure that would be the going price for one from 1979.

I pick up my Atari 800 for about $60.00 and my atari 400 for $20.00 which turned out to be the older of the 2 computers.
