When comparing them to 2600 games there are some that are similar and some are different. What I mean by this is River Raid is pretty much the same game on both systems, with tanks added on the 5200, I prefer the 5200 version over the 2600 version. Pacman and ms pacman are both better on the 5200 in my opinion.

Now Frogger, Holy *bleep* I can't get past level 2 on the 5200 and the 2600 I can play for a loooong time. I forget on the 5200 you can't ride the logs around and die, also on that level, who gave those cars licenses? Holy crap are those ones FAST! It's only the 2nd level too. I think I've passed it once or twice since I got the game again and level 3, if I remember correctly is insane also with cars. I don't know HOW some of you ever get high scores on this game, it is insanely hard compared to the 2600 version.

in regards to River Raid, I feel that the 5200 is much different than the 2600 version... the 5200 version utilizes the analog sticks in the planes movement... this adds a whole new dimension of control nor present in the 2600 version... also in the 5200 (and Colecovision) version, the tanks cross the bridge, and timing your shot to destroy the bridge while the tank is crossing plays into the scoring strategy... the 2600 version doesn't have this so there isn't any strategy in finding more points...

in regards to Frogger, the 5200 version offers control option of using the keypad for movement... I am able to score well by using the Wico keypad... I use three fingers on the keys to allow for fast, prompt movements, which is essential for high level play...
also, playing 5200 Frogger, movements and reaction MUST be very fast to survive! when moving about the playfield, I am looking at the next two to three moves ahead... and making those moves in split seconds... 5200 Frogger is a very fast game, and playing at a high speed is critical in both survival AND high scores...

of note, the 5200 versions of these two games are my favorite versions, mainly because of their control set ups -- River Raid with analog control, and Frogger for keypad control... these respective control setups make for more enjoyment in these games!

I finally got 5200 River Raid and got a chance to play a bit last weekend - I liked it a lot. It was one of those games that everyone else seemed to really like, but never clicked with me. I couldn't really pinpoint the (non-graphical) differences, not having played the 2600 version in a decade, but I definitely enjoyed the 5200 version.

River Raid for me played completely differently on the 5200 compared to the 2600 or 8-bits. I haven't got the idea set up with my 5200 ATM, so playing anything for more than a few minutes is difficult! The big difference is the analogue stick on the 5200. I guess I need to play it a bit more to get used to it. Still enjoyed it a lot. H.E.R.O. on the other hand I felt was ruined by the 5200 joystick. It's way too sensitive for that game! Cant wait to sort out my new video mod to get my set up sorted properly :0)
