Anyone have any good ways to get rid of cigarette smells from ColecoVisions and other electronics?

I take the case apart, spray it with Simple Green and let it soak in warm water for at least an hour.

Or if you're lazy... just throw a sheet of Bounce® and the offending game or system in plastic bag for several days.

They use ozone to get rid of nasty smells in cars:

If it works for cars, it should work for consoles. You just want to make sure that it is done properly so nobody breathes it in. Ozone can be dangerous.

Scrubbing Bubbles cleaner is good too. I haven't put it on a Colecovision so test it on the bottom or something first.

Wow, the smell must really be bad. May have to get a little more aggressive and douche her down with some Febreeze too.

I'd be careful about what I sprayed in or around the unit or games. I know alot about this subject...and many household cleaners contain all sorts of things that work like solvents. get it on the wrong part and you can really mess up your metal plate...or end up taking the sheen like layer off the plastic and it will look really dull and crappy. Bounce seems okay. Warm water w/ regular dishwashing detergent should be okay too...but patience is the key. Eventually..after being in your house for awhile much of the smell will wear off.

Baking soda and/or vinegar in warm water may be okay too...but it will need to be rinsed off. Be careful w/ vinegar on metal. It could cause corrosion if it's not stainless type or whatever.

Febreeze would leave it sticky.

That's why I coin it "douching". Everyone knows to rinse after a good douche.

Or do they? :ponder:
