Xevious is one of the first carts I had for the 7800 in the 80's, and it's been quite some time since I sat down to play it. When I did so last night, I noticed that both the bomb and the gun are mapped to a single button--which is a good thing because I don't currently have a fully functioning 7800 joystick, and I can use a trusty CX40 (which I prefer anyway).
In fact, even back in the 80's, I always played 7800 games with the 2600 stick whenever possible.
It's been 25 years so my memory is a bit foggy, but I could swear I remember it being possible to play Xevious with the 7800 joystick and have the gun and bomb mapped to separate buttons. Am I imagining things? If it's possible, how do you do it?

Use the difficulty switch to change how it works with a two button joystick.

Seems like I remember using a CX40, the ship in Xevious drops bombs and shoots at the same time when the button is pushed.
