+ 2600 HIGH SCORE CHALLENGE 2012

Our fifth HSC + Elimination round is Activisions gem RIVER RAID


SETTING: Play Default (Game 1)

DIFFICULTY:
(A Left / B Right)

DEADLINE TO PLAY: This round has now begun, it will run a week or until
Sunday, Feburary 5th 11:59PM EST (EASTERN TIME)
Play with Atari 2600 Console, or Emulation.
Any joystick or keyboard is fine!

Pics are encoraged here, however I WILL accept a no pic score.

Anyone can jump in and play for a High Score and Ranking, if they like...
Every score will be counted for the High Score Challenge also, even if you're not entered
in the Winter 2600 Knockout.

Everyone starts each game with a score of ZERO, one goal is to get above 0... or get a high score,
if you don't you will be eliminated and the lowest score earned of the active KO players, is safe!
A KING status will be awarded at the end of every round winner, as well as rankings and
points. First place gets +15 points! From there on, 1+ less...

For the K.O., you need not win, just not finish LAST! Let the battle begin...

Ok Left A (straight missiles) and right B
I was better than average as a kid at this game. A joystick makes this much easier.
I was VERY close to the Kool-Aid prediction of 22K as the lowest score (25,400 was the actual). This week I predict 51,000. Straight missiles are slightly harder but not much.

Ok, playing this on emulator with keyboard is not recommended. My wrist is killing me right now, but I'm playing at work, so I don't have my trusty CX-40/Stelladaptor on hand.

First post: 44,100!

I've never played with straight shots before. It's much more challenging if you're always used to the steerable shots. This is going to be a fun week. Good luck to all!

1st try, my score = 19,430

played on wrong setting lol.. but my second score on correct A - B setting is only 100pts lower.

It's stopping for gas that messed me up... 3 lives in a row, bam!

I want to say I won't be bowing out of the tourney this week. But making a bold prediction like that puts additional pressure on myself to perform to my own expectations. But maybe that's a good thing. A guy could always use a little extra motivation.

There is a 16K version of River Raid in addition to the normal 4K version. I assume we are supposed to use the 4K version. Does anyone know the difference between the two (other than the size)?
