The Amiga was home to some pretty cool stuff back in the day and it was fortunate for non-Amiga owners like myself that a host of Amiga games saw home console ports during the 16-bit era. The look and feel of many Euro-developed games of the era are quite distinctive and it's usually a cinch to guess a computer-to-console port without any prior knowledge of its origins. That combo of vividly colourful, deeply shaded, high detail graphics with slippery platforming and a peculiar lack of knockback from collisions tended to signal something. What are some of your favourite Amiga-to-console ports and, for those with computer gaming experience, how do they compare to the originals? A handful I enjoy that spring to mind:
Brutal Sports Football, Jaguar - Quite an entertaining entry in the Jaguar library. While it doesn't do much to push the hardware (like so many of its peers on the Jag), this one's well suited for play on a console and I'm happy it made the jump.
Gods, Genesis/SNES
Lotus II RECS, Genesis
Mega Turrican, Genesis - As I understand it, Mega Turrican was in development prior to the Amiga's Turrican 3 but the game first saw release on computer. While this means Turrican 3's console twin doesn't really jive with the other selections here, it's an interesting case of Amiga/console relations.
The Legend of Galahad, Genesis
Soldiers of Fortune, Genesis/SNES - In my opinion, this is one of the most entertaining overhead shooters of all time. Equipped with a lot of personality, a great soundtrack and a high challenge.
