Never had a ColecoVision back in the day, though I did get to play one over at a friend's house. I also used to maintain the OS/2 port of ColEm(click to see animated GIF).


A couple weeks ago I saw the.golden.ax's system sale and decided to get one. After a USPS detour to Atlanta(!?!?), it finally arrived today! I also got the steering wheel, trackball and 7 additional cartridges from him. I stopped in the Houston Game Over last week for their Chip TuNesday event and picked up the 5 games they had that I wasn't already getting from TGA.

I was surprised at how good the picture is using RF.





though I'll probably want to mod it for better video out. Can I get S-Video and stereo like my 2600, or is composite and/or mono the most I can get out?

I also forgot about how annoying the startup delay was, I used to rag my friend about it back in the day

Oh, I know a thing or two about homebrews and plan to delve into the CV ones in a month or so after I've recovered from the Xmas bills.

I just checked out your site and see some interesting stuff there! How far along is that Super Game Module?

Welcome to the CV Scene... it's a pretty active scene and there's a lot more products being planned for release over the coming months and year. You won't be disappointed in the least.

Two AtariAge members that you should checkout are 5-11under and Yurkie. 5-11under sells a Component/Composite video board upgrade kit and has a great thread on DIY projects if you have the skillset. Yurkie provides a slew of TREMENDOUS mods and upgrades to the CV like a Composite Video with Audio upgrade, system refurbishing, controller mods, a pause button mod and last but not least... a BIOS mod that does away with the 11 second delay!!!

While not technically a delay try playing a racing game on the XboX or PS2! it takes a couple of minutes to select the car type, transmission, car color, race course and etc. I find that a bigger pain IMO.

Awesome 2600 dev work! welcome to the coleco club! Will you be diving into Homebrew coding on coleco? if so talk to Dan B aka (Newcoleco), his dev tools are amazing and super easy to code with!!! Hands down i think coleco has one of, if not the best homebrew followings, not to mention some truly great and pleasant users to work with!

Wow - wasn't expecting component video to be an option. I'll have to read up on that!

Hmm, thinking back I recall using a different BIOS with ColEm that skipped the delay. Possibly the same thing Yurkie's using.

I might get into writing CV homebrews, but I'd want something like the Harmony so I could test on my CV <google> this Ultimate SD Multicart looks promising, anybody familiar with them? I see they also have another cart that looks to be more along the lines of the Krok Cart, but it doesn't look like it supports my Mac.

Hmm - does the Coleco support Paddles? If it does I could see doing a port of Medieval Mayhem.

Yes, put simply most Atarimax products are damn awesome! That SD version is the latest replacing the earlier 128 in 1 model that required a USB link and transfer software! The SD version is much simpler to use. Here is an old review I did of a prototype revision back before it came out officially:

I too have just recently joined the ColecoVision Scene. Just purchased a NICE unit from Todd, ever since I ordered it I have been having dreams about playing it the past two nights haha and I raided my friends games store last night and bought all 5 games he had for sale for CV!

So far I been hearing nothing but great things about the CV, I look forward to playing it upon its arrival.

Anyone know where I could purchase homebrews/cheap games from? Besides Atari2600 and Ebay.

BTW, as I was going through my reseller bookmarks, I came across good ol' Jack Berg Sales. They used to have Donkey Kong NIB for $20 shipped. I remember I balked at that price 10 years ago. Now of course I'm kicking myself.
