Hello,

has anyone information on or knowledge about the natural lifespan/endurance of a Lynx I/II LCD screen?

How about dead/hot pixels? Do they come with age, or does their existence generally depend on the individual quality of the LCD?

Anyone please post their experience...

I think age has less to do with it than storage conditions, mishandling, etc. I have seen some complaints about dead pixels and so on, but all three of my Lynxes are going strong after 20 years with no issues.

I agree my Lynx is in perfect working condition.

Atari guaranteed the screen for 100,000 lights. I'm not sure how long that would be if you used your Lynx every day, but both my screens as far as lighting up are going strong. I have a model 1 unit that has 1/3 of the screen blacked out and I can't figure out what to do with it though.

I suggest checking your caps :) my game gear was like that and after cap replacement is better than new :)

The backlight was rated at 3000 hours.

An LCD may be fine for 20 yrs or more.Unless, extreme heat fries the pixels or blows the seal.Same with extreme cold too. <cringe> :(

I have a Lynx II now that has a pixel or seal problem -- 2 small half circles of white have started along the right edge of the screen -- the rest of the screen is full color and fine. (?) It was just fine.I have another Lynx II that is fine and another Lynx II and 2 Lynx 1s I haven't checked lately.

My Lynx screen went bad about two years ago, I replaced the screen and every thing was fine.

That was in Europe. I was wondering if there was bad batch of screens. If there was, it is a wide geographical distribution.

or maybe they will all start to go bad, and some have gone a lot sooner than others? That would be worst case :(

My Lynx II's LCD is still immaculate after 16 years of regular use. Not a single dead pixel, indeed not even a scratch, because I take very good care of my property. ...And more importantly, because I've used a screen shield/sun visor the entire time.

Granted, it's my third Lynx, but the first two died due only to siblings who didn't care how they treated my stuff. They haven't touched my current Lynx, and lo and behold, it looks exactly that way!

I dont have dead pixels, but i do have some slow ones. I thought it was normal until I compared it with another Lynx.

The sad thing is that as I understand the Lynx LCD was a special design by Atari, probably because it was very early for color LCDs they couldn´t rely on some stock screen.

This means that when the Lynx screens finally do die there will be no way to replace them as you can do with a Sega Nomad for example. Nothing compatible exists. :(
