Chilly I think I like your version of Wolf3d 32x better than the Jag's version. If I'm not mistaken the enemies are in full 3d? This is something the Jaguar version doesn't have.

I noticed that on the Jaguar version... it's like Doom on most other consoles of the time - the baddies always facing you. I would guess that means they based it on the Mac version of Wolf3D (forward facing baddies are a prime way of telling which W3D ports derive from the Mac branch - the Mac branch seems to be the main port base for Wolf3D much like the Jaguar branch of Doom is the base for most other console ports of Doom). I based the 32X version on the PSP version, which I also worked on, which was in turn based on Wolf4SDL v1.5.

I was thinking to myself - I'm currently updating the 32X version of Wolf3D to the Wolf4SDL v1.7, which has lots of great stuff in it; it would also make a really good base for a Jagaur version. So it's on the Jaguar TODO list. :)

Yeah, but I'd rather just hang loose for a bit and see if I can get by without it. I don't want to fool around inside the Jag if I don't have to.

yea you got a point there, did mine the way i did because it was the cheapest method, replacing eeprom, hacking a bjl cable from a parallel cable. we all got our ways of doing stuff ;)

Would be cool to see an updated version of wolf3d for the jag.

The source code for the jag version from what i understand has not been found but i could be wrong. A collector might be sitting on it...

Anyhow, give myself or any of the other devs here a shout if you have any questions on anything. Always happy to help or point you in the right direction atleast.

Even if the source for JagWolf was available, I wouldn't work from it. It would be better to use a better newer base, like Wolf4SDL, then put the work into improving the graphics.

BJL has been great for trying demos and homebrew games. I wish there was a
USB version.

Something like this: http://krikzz.com/link-unit.html

I've got two of those for the Genesis, but you could see where something similar could be done almost exactly the same way for the Jaguar.

Not cheap, but worth it :)

but seriously though. i mean you can buy a card with a serial port on it for your box these days from newegg.com that are like 20 bucks....
build a cable and transfer speeds are just fine... multiple revisions of the bjl uploader tool exist and have been re-tooled for different platforms. no need to re-invent the wheel....

You need a parallel port card for BJL, not serial.

You're right, my mistake. db25 parallel port. you can buy one though still from newegg.com for 20-25 USD.

Well, I got the BJL adapter and Protector SE. So I got homebrew running now. It took a little experimentation to find the "sweet spot" in the timing - my system seems to work best with a wait of 3. Timing how long it took to load a 1MB hombrew (24 seconds), I get about 41 KB/sec transfer via the BJL in 8-bit mode. Not bad for a parallel port cable.
