I've got some free time so I've decided to build covox using schematics on Lotharek's website:

Problem is that I can't find 74LS574, only 74HC(T)574... they look like they're same but maybe not? Also, can I just connect L + R output to stereo Pokey output or it needs to be seperated from it?

Futurelec lists the 74LS574 for $1.25, I don't have any personal experience with them.

HCT will probably even sound better as the signal transitions will be faster and synchronous. Think going from 127 to 128 where seven bits go from 1 to 0 and one bit goes vice versa. In CMOS technology, both transitions are equally fast. In NMOS technology, going from 1 to 0 is faster than the other way around, hence there will be a short value of zero in between 127 and 128.

As for mixing with pokey signals, a simple passive mixer will do, for example, route them through a 4k7 resistor and tie them together. If you use a 10k pot and use the wiper as output, you can adjust the balance as you see fit.

It works! :)

I didn't use 2k4 resistors but instead I used 820r, 1k6 ,3k3, 6k2, 12k, 24k, 47k and 91k. It sounds good in Inertia, but in Neotracker it's total mess.. adress is $D280, right?

Oh, it's not on $D280 but on $D600... so now work both of them :)

It's funny how it sounds better than LPT dac's on 386-P1 computers.

Hello KubaCZ

$D280 would be better. All PBI devices use $D600. Luckily with VBXE we have a choice between $D600 and $D700.

Hi Mathy

problem is that Inertia has D600 hardcoded I think and I want to have it working too... I'm using IDE+2 which is PBI and doesn't have any problem with it... only it makes noise when loading data but that's not big problem :)

Hello KubaCZ

"Hardcoded" doesn't mean that much anymore. There should be more them enough people here that can change $D600 into $D280.

Inertia Player 4.0 can be set manually to $D5, $D6 and $D7

Is there a way to get Inertia ( I think I have 4.5) to work with a Covox wired to $D280?

Possibly. May be as easy as altering the code with a sector editor (changing 80D2 to 00d6) but never looked into the code.

K - I'll try that.

It's actually reversed. You need search for 00D6 ($D600) and change it to 80D2 ($D280) but I guess you'll get the point :-)

Hello guys

IIRC there were/are two versions of Inertia. Where the version with the lower version number was actually the latest version, or the version with more options.

Well,

there were half a dozen or more versions of Inertia, alas, I have only three of them (versions 2.x, 3.x and 4.5). Attached them here, as well as some other Covox software, like Pro-Tracker and Neo-Tracker (v1.6 on ATR, v1.7 and v1.8 as XEX)
