Okay I posted a status last night saying I was gonna play some Haunted House and Pole Position II on my 2600 and someone from this board replied on my status saying "ROM Hoarder!!".

Wtf is a ROM hoarder!? lol I have no clue what that is. Anyone can fill me in on this nerdy lingo? Is it an insult?? Then I go and try to play Pole Position II and come to find it's only for the 7800. :( I won the game in an eBay lot and the seller told me it was for the 2600,drats. Still have no idea what a ROM hoarder means tho but according to this old AA thread it's not cool...

If I had unknown ROM images from an unreleased homebrew game I sure as hell would not keep them to myself!! I don't even know how to make my own homebrew.

So I kinda feel who called me that was just being a big mean nerd!

I can only guess someone was trying to be funny and failed miserably.

I assume that, since I don't believe PPII came out on the 2600 (it's only on the 7800, right?), the person was making a joke to the effect that you had a mythical, uncirculated proto for the 2600.

Drats now I've got to get a 7800 now just to play the game. Oh well, I've been meaning to get one anyways.

Seriously tho, I have never heard the word 'ROM hoarder' until last night lol. I'm not too keen on the technical jargon.

Pole position 2 isn't worth buying a 7800 for. Some of the other games are, but you may be disappointed in PP2.

I have probably 10s of thousands of roms if not more, probably thousands of duplicates, all spread and hidden amongst nested directories probably created 15 years ago floating somewhere in 6TB of storage on one computer. No real desire to ever clean it up.. now that's probably hoarding. :P

lushgirl_80: When a rare or unknown cartridge surfaces, everyone wants to see the ROM (game program) get 'dumped' (downloaded) so it can be preserved, shared, studied, played on emulators, etc.

I recently found out there's no ROM dumps for the pinball machine I just bought. I'm going to do the un-rom hoardy-thing and will be mailed an EEPROM reader to get it dumped.
