A_Locomotive
To go along with the good news that its real there is also this horrendously bad news on pricing. Retro gaming specialist Blaze has told MCV its planned £500 price tag for the NeoGeo X is accurate, contrary to other reports circulating online. Games news website Eurogamer posted a story suggesting the £500 price tag is innacurate. It also said a Blaze spokesperson confirmed this. However, Blaze has told MCV that the £500 price is on the cards but the company is keeping an open mind to a potential price drop. This £500 figure is based on a conversation MCV had with Blaze today (Thursday, March 15th). It is not based on a 'month-old forum post', which Eurogamer claimed. You can read more details on the NeoGeo X here. http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/blaze-confirms-500-price-tag-for-neogeo-x/092841

No way would anyone touch this thing in that price range, not even a Neo Geo fanatic (even if it was made by the old SNK itself!).

I really wanted this thing too, I was filling out my info on the site linked too in Dr Manhattans post when I decided to see if there was on info on pricing, I was shocked when I saw it would cost more then $700 in the US, thats just a mind numbingly stupid price, I could buy a genuine AES and several games for that kind of money, or a freaking MVS and a multicart.
StoneAgeGamer
Well I see SNK hasn't changed its pricing strategy from AES days. 500 pounds? Are they insane?
StoneAgeGamer
So I talked to some people. According to them the price has yet to be set and the license agreement hasn't even officially been finalized and signed yet. I am not saying this price is wrong, but either someone is lying, giving out bad information, or there is a lot of confusion going on.
Reaperman
hahahahahaha Nice try. A real neo geo may have been worth that price once, but not the typical $20 worst-of-snk collection wrapped up in a cruddy little mp4 player. $30 is my price point, and that's pushing it for filthy software emulation on a device with the wrong screen aspect ratio. Or probably a dozen 'n a half of these chintzy portables, since there's no way they would possibly cost $700 each. That IS mind-numbingly stupid. _shameless_
thats a bit much for something like this :/ think ill just stick with emulation on my pc which is free

According to them the price has yet to be set and the license agreement hasn't even officially been finalized and signed yet. I am not saying this price is wrong, but either someone is lying, giving out bad information, or there is a lot of confusion going on. My guess was $85 to $100 US. The "$500 price tag" sounds like a joke on the old AVS pricing.
Rex Dart
Just get a PSP and forget this stupid piece of junk you can even write "SNK NEO GEO" on your PSP if that's what you're interested in
retrogamer73
Surely this handheld won't be as expensive as everyones saying. I for one am tired of handheld systems costing almost or more than home consoles. 3DS is more than the current price of Wii, PS Vita is about as much as PS3, and now this is being said to cost $500. 128Kgames
UPDATE: Blaze dismisses £500 price tag rumour. UPDATE: A spokesperson for Blaze has told Eurogamer that the £500 price tag suggested in MCV's story is incorrect. "It's not £500," they confirmed. Apparently MCV's figure was based on a month's old forum post from a community member declaring what he'd be willing to pay for the device. Blaze wouldn't confirm what the actual price will be, but said an official announcement will be made soon. http://www.eurogamer...rice-tag-mooted
Atariboy
The screen isn't even 4:3. Sure doesn't leave out much hope for the rest of it if they couldn't even get a basic detail like that correct. I just hope the final price is a reasonable one, if when this goes on sale its in the $100 range with room to bend a bit I'm game but beyond that I'm not sure. Megadragon15
SNK and Blaze really doesn't want to sell any. £500 is way too much for this thing. Edited March 17, 2012 by Megadragon15

onmode-ky
Read post 15, guys. But isn't post 15 the exact article being refuted by the statement, "This £500 figure is based on a conversation MCV had with Blaze today (Thursday, March 15th). It is not based on a 'month-old forum post', which Eurogamer claimed"? I think the timeline goes: 1) MCV statement #1; 2) Eurogamer statement, quoted in post 15; 3) MCV statement #2 refuting Eurogamer, quoted in post 2. If that's correct, then the current tentative price really is 500 pounds. onmode-ky
Atariboy
That's not how it reads to me. Sounds like someone at a forum mentioned that they'd be willing to pay up to 500 pounds for such a device, MCV decided to go with that figure as if it was the actual MSRP when they did a story about this device after word leaked out, with Eurogamer (The source that wrote the article in post 15, not MCV) proceeding to get verification from Blaze about what the actual price is going to be after that outragious price estimate started to make rounds at various outlets. As the Eurogamer story says, Blaze has confirmed that it's not 500 pounds and that they'd be announcing the price later. And it seems widely suspected that this device is based off something like the Dingoo (I guess it looks much like one, which is supposedly why it doesn't even have a 4:3 screen) and other similar devices that sell for under $100. This isn't even a SNK product. Blaze licensed this IP from SNK and Tommo, a common distributor of cheap clones, will be distributing it. It will be expensive compared to the average plug and play, but I think it's safe to say it isn't going to go for over half a grand. I wouldn't be surprised if it was below $100.
