I mean, i saved all 64 guys, and the game ends? What the hell! If someone added in a few more levels and had them loop, or even added a loop code into the single level and increased the difficulty each wave, i would buy that game SO fast.

??

That's how the game finishes. IIRC the original AppleII game flashes "MAGNIFICENT" on the screen when you save all hostages.

Cool trick (Atari800):
The hostages always run toward your 'copter. Carefully lure them back to base by flying up as they approach you, and land further away. Bomb any tanks that appear before the hostages get hit. If you can lure them all the way back to the "border fence", they will run into the embassy without being recorded. This will make the game unbeatable, as a new hostage cannot leave the barracks without one of the previous ones being recorded on one of the values.

But Choplifter in its original guise (which the 7800 version is a variation of rather than the SEGA coin op) always topped out at a complete rescue of all the little hostages...

I guess Atatri could have fiddled about with it, but I bet they had the lisence to just do a port of the computer game...

I guess you are right, I never thought of it that way. It would be nice to have different difficulty settings though :)

It's typical Tramiel-7800 development from 1987 ... cheap on the development costs (hence the lack of levels and extras), cheap on the packaging (hence the lack of colour or screen captures in the manuals), cheap production (hence the 48K cartridge when Nintendo and Sega were having 128K carts at the time ... and moving to 256K and higher).

The only problem I had with the game was that the enemies seem harder than I'm used to in the original and Sega versions! I mean, I land to pick up a hostage and *BOOM* I'm blown up by a tank that wasn't even there two seconds ago! Other than that, I think it's a pretty good port.

Drac,

I hate repeating myself, but as you didn't read further up the thread, Atari had the licence to the Broderbund game NOT the SEGA coin-op - so what you get is an accurate conversion of the computer game - that is what Atari did on the 7800 - bring out computer game conversions...

Now if they had the other deal, then it would be a cheap shot...

Yeah the Atari game seemed like a much harder and cheaper port of the Sega Arcade game it's based upon :?

I finished choplifter in my second outing with the game,, Way too easy and quick i think. Pity really as the arcade version was heaps better,, i would have been a bit disappointed to spend full price for the cart in the day.

Have you ever played any of the original computer versions? The 7800 version is completely lacking the silky animation and control of the originals. It was so hideous I could never bring myself to seriously play it after getting it.
