I think he means that the chips he's getting instead won't work in audiophile models.

Right. JB was just saying that "audiophile" units are unnecessary to begin with.

Right. If you know what you're doing, you can make ANY AV system an "audiophile" one.

Ax, do you ship overseas? How much will 2 chips shipped to Germany cost? Are there instructions how to install those chips?

They aren't referred to as "audiophile" just because they have AV jacks in the back ;) Supposedly, they have really, really nice sound chips and etc. inside of them, versus the later revised models. Sort of like how the Sega Genesis 2 and 3 had crappier sound circuits and video chips in them.

Yeah, but aren't those also the ones with all of those problems? You know, where you have to flip it over so it can read the disc correctly and also the overheating?

I didn't know they made Playstations that you didn't have to flip over to read the discs. Mine's not an audiophile and I have to do that (and most of my friends have been in the same boat).

Never heard of any overheating problems before.

I've owned five Playstations(two grey, and three slim) Not ONE of them did I have to flip them over to read the disc.

My very first audiophile machine, only if you let it overheat did you have to play it upside down. People would set them on carpet and block the vents on the bottom, and they would get hot. Playing upside down would allow the heat to vent.

Ah, I see. So that's a little bit different than the "turn it on its side so the disc will actually read" trick.

Anyway, back on topic...

The "just chips" may have to wait a bit. I've had communication with the seller and they still haven't sent the order :| he said he lost his data due to storms :? anyway some of the chips are not in stock, as well as something about wire/solder that is supposed to come with each one (English isn't his first language, I think he is out or short on that stuff, but big deal I have plenty of both) I paid for the expedited delivery already when I order, and told him to hurry up and send what is available now. They were supposed to have been here already. I'm depending on having the majority of these done in order to help pay my June mortgage on the 15th. He assured me he would send what he had today. I've done business with them before in '09, and this year so I trust em, just disappointed with the turn around and communication.

I deal with wholesalers in Hong Kong about once a month for the last several years and have rarely ever had a problem with anything other than being slow, June is good for me, no hurry on my mod, as far as i'm concerned AX take the time you need, it will be just that much better when it gets here.

Unforeseen delays and lessons learned are why I'm now generally anti-prepaid these days. It may make some more ambitious projects harder to get off the ground. Luckily it wasn't a huge cash outlay for the mod chips. He gave me a fedex number now, and some free chips for other systems as an apology :) those will be fun to mess with.

I know for me, the main reason I prepaid was to get it out of the way and also so you could get the chips in quicker. I know you've had some trouble with the mortgage recently, so I figured while I have it to help out so you're not paying out of pocket for the chips. I have a mortgage too and BELIEVE ME I know the feeling, especially on the months we didn't have a tenant. If people want to pay you, it could help your situation so this way you have them definitely sold and pay the mortgage. You're well trusted here and I've personally dealt with you in the past. You're one of the ONLY people I trust business wise. You explaining the delay immediately proves my point. I wish you the best on this and I KNOW that when I get them from you, it will be NOTHING but the best.

BTW, what other chips are they sending? This way if they work out the way you want them, I could be interested. I can't solder for shit and I think my systems would be better in your hands to work on.

I think he sent me some for PS2, but don't know yet, he gave the name of the chip not what system it is for. I plan to use at least one. The stupid magicboot thing is irritating to me. Patching stuff to make it work is an extra hassle. I like to copy from my original to a back-up and be done. One drive to the other. My kids love PS2, and I don't want them messing with the real discs. I've got around 100 games for PS2 and have gone through and made the cases perfect, and only collected CIB, many HTF titles.

Like I asked earlier, if you ever decide to start doing modded PS2's, I'm DEFINITELY in. Then, I can go to Digital Press and Videogames NY and splurge on some Japanese goodies like the Neo Geo Box Sets, the Sega Ages discs, and the Japanese Puroresu games. That's the only real reason I want one modded. There were SO MANY great Japanese titles and collections that never made it here. It's worth the shot. BTW, did you sell that PS2 yet? I might put up my copy of Nester's Funky Bowling and use that to pick it up if you have it still.
