Is the 5200 trackball just a cue ball?

Title says it all. I'm taking apart and cleaning a 5200 Trak-Ball controller and the color, size, and weight of the trackball itself are so familiar. I don't have a pool/billiard ball for comparison. Could make for some cool customizations, if it is!

I think it is. I seem to remember stories of people replacing the ball with an eight ball.

Cool. I'll be on the lookout for spare billiard balls. Do any of you lubricate the trackball bearings? What do you use?
