I saw the pictures of 5200 Xevious at www.atariprotos.com and i am not
impressed. The 7800 version looks much better. The colors at the 5200 are
not "Xevious-like". And the display of the scoring looks like home-made!
A few years ago, i owned the C-64 US-Gold version which looks slightly
better!

So your argument is that the 7800 game looks better than the 5200 proto?

Yeeeeaaaah...what's your point?

That's like comparing 2600 HERO to 5200 HERO. One has slightly better graphics than the other, but both play almost exactly the same. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make?

"I saw the pictures of 5200 Xevious at www.atariprotos.com and i am not

===> And it should -- a newer, faster machine with more capabilities than the 5200, which was designed in 1979.

"The colors at the 5200 are not "Xevious-like"."
===> 5200 has a 5 color limit for BG graphics in that graphics mode. You work with what you got.

"And the display of the scoring looks like home-made!"
===> It is the built in font of the Atari 5200/8bit computers.

"A few years ago, i owned the C-64 US-Gold version which looks slightly
better!"
===> C64 had better color abilities than the Atari's by default. Show a picture of it.

It's actually not too bad if you forget there's an excellent 7800 version out there. The 5200 version did the best with the limited 5200 hardware (which was 6 years old at that point). I agree that the colors are pretty nasty, but the gameplay is excellent. My biggest complaint is that your ship seems to move a little too slow IMHO.

The graphics really only disappoint wiht the ground targets. The tanks are micro-sized for some reason (and no Rovers!) and the pyramid shaped targets are too skinny.

Keep in mind that we only *think* that this is the final version. Any know the whereabouts of Jim Huether?

BTW thanks for the plug! :)

XEVIOUS COULD HAVE BE DONE BETTER ON THE 5200!
The hardware differences between 5200 and 7800 are much smaller than
between 2600 and 5200.

The 7800 could display more sprites on a screen than the 5200/XL-series,
thats all.

The 7800 Xevious also blows the PANTS off the 2600 version. Check it out

The arcade Xevious is much better than the 2600 version IMO

The 7800 version pales in comparison to the PS namco museum version. :P

IMHO the 7800 sucks for gameplay in general. The 5200 has a better library and the games weren't thrown together with no-frills labels at the last minute.

You're right, aesthetically, the 7800 version is much better than the 5200 PROTOTYPE ;) they probably could have done better had it ever been officially released.

It's hard to imagine any version being sweeter than 7800. I kill myself just to hear that little ditty at the beginning over and over when I'm bored. :D

How do you hear things when you are dead?

Did Snider-man's avatar bite you?

I don't know for sure, but my Spidey sense often tingles when I think there are new carts to be found in Omaha. And when I haul away 22 5200 games in one shot as I did a month ago, I have to think I'm pretty damn lucky to have it! :D

Xevious could of been a lot better on the 5200. They didn't do a good job on it or they just didn't get to finish. For one thing the sound could of been a lot better!

Yeah, it's almost as if Xevious is some kind of unreleased prototype or something!

True, But I wonder how far along 5200 Xevious was. Does anyone know if it was "done" or was it say at 80%?
