Well known, long-standing problem. The backwards compatibility with 7800 was never 100% perfect, even on Atari's in house titles. This and about a half-dozen other games just don't work; nothing you can do. Some earlier model 7800's are better, some aren't. The earlier ones have an expansion port on the side.

You might just have to get yourself an Atari 2600 in order to play it. I have to do that myself with Robot Tank.

Actually the only problem with Kool Aid man and the 7800 is that the cart likes to pop out of the slot sometimes since for some reason..it is such a tight fit. The game isn't locked up...trying switching the difficulty switches on the 7800. One of them when put in one posistion will actually "Pause" Kool Aid man...and if you have it set this way when you first insert the cart...you will get the beginning animation...but then it locks up with some weird brown lines running vertically over the background if I remember correctly.

Just flip the difficulty switches and see what happens... ;)

Thanks for telling me this! I now realize I must have an earlier one then.

The game has a break, when the difficult switch at a special position. Just switch the Difficult switches, and see if this will work.

My Kool Aid man seems to be simply incompatible. I put it in, it works the title, and when the game comes on, he jiggles and bounces in the upper left corner and I can't controll him. It's not paused, because after awhile, the super thing will hit me and I'll get big and have perfect controll of KoolAid man. But when the special runs out, he goes back to bouncing around the top left of the screen.

I know the game isn't defective, because it works on my 2600 just fine. It just refuses to properly work on the 7800.

That problem seems to affect all 2600 JRs. and 7800s that were made after 1989 in China. Unfortunately this includes almost all PAL 7800s. I don't know what was changed in those consoles, but Kool Aid Man uses an unconventional way to position the score display. On the newer JRs and 7800s this results in the score digits being placed on top of each other. Therefore the game detects a constant collission which it atributes to the Kool Aid Man character. This is why he is constantly bouncing in the top left corner.

it has been my experience with my 7800 systems that kool-aid man will work in the newer one, but not the older model with the expansion port on the side. My kool-aid man actually seemed to be loose in the slot on the old one... :?

Wow I didn't know that. I went back and looked, and sure enough, the score is messed up when I play on the 7800. Well, I'll just have to try the other 7800 I got, when I get it back from a friend who's borowing it for the week. I think the other one I have has an expansion port, but this one doesn't. The sticker's gone though, so I'm not sure how old it is.
