Super Mario Bros 1 / Legend of Zelda / Final Fantasy 1

That would require pretty much a complete rewrite of those games...the 7800 architecture is completely different from the SMS and NES's tile based consoles.
Good point. However, I didn't think Sega Master System used tiles for graphics?

:D Ive that one! it would be cool to see some J64 games port over to 7800 but i think it would fit on a 7800 cart. :(

The best version of defender is not the jag update but the playstation retro compilation from midway... also has a decent version of Sinistar of it.

What's different with that version?

I'd like to see the following:

A decent wrestling game for the 7800
A decent boxing game for the 7800

Basically anything that the NES did..I'd like to see them try and attempt it on the 7800. If I knew something about programming, I'd try myself.

Now you are going back a bit... I seem to remember that that title was banned before they got a chance to release it.

Solomonīs Key - this was a great , but underrated arcade-game by Tecmo.

It was ported to several homecomputers , the only ATARI version is for the ATARI ST.

I liked this game , itīs a platform game where you can create blocks /let block disappear , with many extras/secrets.

Would be no big problem for the 7800,since it was also ported to the C64 and the 7800 has better graphics.

Well it is actually the arcade game as it is an arcade emulator. Also you can cheat by changing the arcade settings. The pack also has robtron 2084, stargate, sinistar and bubbles. The jag update of defender is great as is the original but the half update is not very good. There are three different versions of the game on the cart, org defender, defender +1 and Defender 2000. Def 2000 is great until the tombstones start dropping when a humaniod dies then it gets really hard.

As long as we're making a wish list, how about bringing Mega Man to the 7800? ;) That might seem impossible on the surface, but if the antiquated technology of the NES could do it, why not a 7800 too?

I would like to see these games for the 7800.

Tempest
Battlezone
Bomberman (And a working multitap)
A Subspace Clone: Subspace is a multiplayer space combat game.
R-Type
A good port of the arcade Mario Bro
Pac-man collection (with arcade graphics)
A 2-player version of Pole Position 2.

I would like to see a DK hack with all the levels on it, as well as decent sound effects.

I am heavy into multiplayer games and enjoy playing against several people, but there is a lack of high qaulity multiplayer games for the Atari.

Actually, I'd start simpler..

I'd love a hack of Xexious that uses the 2nd button to drop the bomb, with the 1st button as regular shots!!!

Other than that, it's pretty close to being REALLY FUN.. :-)

Pole Position with Voice... (Do they have any voice in any 7800 games?)

As for RPGs.. Apart from Zelda-esqe games, I can't see playing RPGs with a Joystick.. At least not the Ultima Style games..

Yeah, the basic walk, search, attack-north would work, but the subtleties that made it addictive I don't think would work. Although, size wouldn't be a problem. Ultima I and II were 1 and 2 floppies. That's 170k and 320k. True, 320k would be big, but I'm betting it could be pared down to 244k without too much trouble.. (I'm not confusing bytes and bits again, am I? :-)

Now, a Bard's Tale type game might work.. Joystick controlled menu system.. Hmmmm...

But you'd want to be able to save your game!!!

Can you do save games?? (I'm not a fan of codes for levels, and it wouldn't work well for RPGs)

The only one I can think of--and it's not crucial to the game, it's just in the intro--is in Jinks, when you hear voices from Gauntlet, with the dungeonmaster saying "welcome!", the thief saying "you can't catch me!" and then the elf character yelping in pain. Like, whatever.

If I remember correctly you would need some sort of battery backup on the cartridge to save a game. Needless to say it would probably very expensive to produce.

I would code a game but I don't know how to program for the atari....

I JUST tried Xevious, and it doesn't...

It's in the manual too...

1 button (either) fires both..

Kual!! Oh well, never mind. Flipping the difficulty switch enables the 2nd button to drop bombs!!!
Thanx!!!

From the manual: "Fire both weapons by pressing the controller button."

Nowhere does it mention the difficulty switch thing... Hmmm...

Now I have to go back and try my other games!!! ;-)

There's a SPACE HARRIER on the NES, SMS, Commodore 64 and (coming soon) Atari 8-bit. I don't see why a good programmer couldn't pull it off.

Again people ... the 7800 is an 8-bit system, like the NES, SMS and C64. ;-) Bad programmers and Tramiel cheapness do not negate the processing power of the system.

I have thought of a solution to that problem, but I haven't made a prototype as I'd need to get code running on a 7800, and I don't know how to program those things.

In any case, what I thought up is a memory module that sits between the console and a joystick or paddle controller. The module should be fairly cheap because its only made up of a microcontroller (a cheap one that I can program), a serial EEPROM, a couple connectors, a PCB, a case, and some resistors and capacitors. The parts, minus the case, PCB, and firmware, cost under $10.

See my post above for saving games. Just an idea.

As for joystick control, you could add a keypad controller, too. Might be a tad awkward, though. Or how about a controller with 5 buttons and an analog joystick? That should be possible, but probably not worth the trouble.
