You've got Mike Tyson's Punch Out listed in 1984? The original arcade Punch Out may have been released then but the NES game came much later. The original arcade game, IIRC, doesn't have Mario in it. At least, he's not the referee.

I also didn't see "Punch-Out!", the re-release with Tyson replaced with Mr. Dream.

Where does Mario appear in Zelda 3?

I think you go into the houses in the village and see a picture of Mario on the wall.

*ahem* Luigi's Mansion "Mansion", unlike, say, "OoT".

And you shouldn't use "Zelda 3", there's no such thing. If you mean The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, say it. With a few exceptions, the Zeldas aren't proper sequels to each other, so numbers are misleading.

There's the Mario Bros. game bundled with the "Super Mario Advance" titles.

There's all those original Game & Watch games (Mario's Cement Factory, etc.)

There's Game & Watch Gallery 4 for the GBA.

Dr. Mario for the N64

Mario Tennis has both a N64 and a GBC version, so should list twice.

The new Mario Party-e card game.

Since you actually have to play the arcade Donkey Kong in order to finish (and in a form altered from the original to boot), you can say Mario is in Donkey Kong 64.

"Mario Lottery" is a hack, not a real game.

And if you're going to list Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. - Deluxe (and other titles that are basically the same game) seperately, you'll need all those different home versions of Donkey Kong, [b][i]Mario Bros.
, etc (2600, 5200, INTV, NES, Atari 8-Bit, e-card...)

Yes, I know. But he's not in the game, just his picture. Mario himself is actually in Luigi's Mansion, albeit as a suppoerting character.

Well if we're only counting games where Mario is a playable character, about half of that list needs to be axed anyway.

I would say no,they are just remakes. If we counted all of those we would have like 395432095420 Mario games! :ponder:

Yup, including every bootleg version of SMB that appears on 256-in-1 carts overseas, each one starting on a different world (1-2, 1-3, 1-4...)

I should clarify that I got this list from a web site, so I don't know what is correct and what isn't. That's why I posted it. I figured there were people here who would be able to "clean up" the list. And add to it, because I know it's not complete...
so keep going, what's the count so far?
I think any game that has a cameo of Mario counts
please feel free to edit the list
:)

Well, in any case, it's entirely clear that Mario in any way, shape, form, has been way overdone.

I don't see any of the Super Mario Advance titles on the list. Super Mario Advance (2001) and Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 (2002). And then there's Mario Brothers -e. And Super Mario Advance 3, Yoshi's Island (2002). Sure, they're remakes of earlier games, but in all three there are differences between the original and the GBA versions.

Oh, and there's Super Mario Kart Advance.

I'm hoping that the upcoming Super Mario Advance 4 is a remake of Super Mario Bros. 3. Or at least an all-new adventure.

I used think this about Mario but then games like Mario Golf and Mario Tennis for the Gameboy Color blow me away. I played both of those for about a year straight. Can't wait for any Mario sports sequels on the Cube or GBA, and I bet I'll like the Mario Cube games once I get that console.

And you always have Mario doing some funky stuff:

Okay, compiling everything here plus searches of GameFAQs plus my own collection, I get the lists below.

I've organized by format instead of year and am not counting hacks, pirates or clones. I'm also not counting demos in this version (although adding them wouldn't be that hard).

I'm sure I'm still missing some.

For instance, were the versions of Donkey Kong for the Apple ][ and PC official? What other Atarisoft DKs were there? I don't know. Were there other Mario ".vs" arcade games? Any "Super .vs" Marios? etc. etc. etc.

I have no idea if it's 100% complete (though it looks it) but you should check out The Mushroom Kingdom - it's an amazing amount of info, with lots of images to boot.
