Something I have always wondered is that is Anybody elses Lynx Paint coming off. I have a Lynx I model, and I played it A LOT several years ago. What I noticed is when I would play the thing, my hands would sweat like nothing else. Well, I guess this damages the paint. Anybody else have this problem?

This is a common problem with the Lynx I, I have 3 dead ones laying around that all have the same flaked look to them.

I remember the first one that I had. I bought my lynx Back in the early 1990's, and was so Pi**ed off when the paint starting coming off. I ended up taking it back to store, and the next one did the same thing. Must have been from spending hours and hours playing Chips Challenge and Todd's Adventure in Slimeworld.

What really hacked me off is that I took it apart to see if I could possibly repaint it. Well, I didn't pay attention to the screw sizes. Placing it back together, I placed one of the really long screws in one of the holes that was meant to have a small screw, and drove the thing right through the front of the thing. Aghh! Oh well, lesson learned.

Too bad the Lynx never really took off. It was superior to the game boy.

I lent mine to a friend that sweated a lot and it came back with half of it's paint off. Luckily enough, it broke and we were able to get a newer Lynx II at a low price from Atari. Too bad my new Lynx has a crack through the screen (still functioning though).

i have two of these and have seen the same thing happen.i've had six of
2's and never heard of it since.they did not paint the twos.i liked the one
the best at first, now i like the two.i never got a two till 1995/6.
question:has anyone ever seen a white lynx before?a guy in my town did
claim to have one.i've heard of a red one being made for the european
market for marlboro go!,were there other colors?i know, the japanese had
different colored game gears and gameboys that were not released in the
u.s.a. for our consumption.did atari japan do this too??neat trivia thing. :)
another question:has anyone else ever had their lcd monitor ribbon on
their lynx crack through?i had this happen to one of mine.been keeping it
back for parts or getting another display for it.the lynx is fine other than
the ribbon going to hell on it.i've not seen this question posted before.is it
a freak thing?or is this common to other lynxes out there. :? -chris

Weird beacuse my Lynx1 has no paint missing but is in very well used condition. It doesn't actually look like its been painted, just plastic. Maybe lynx in uk is different.

electrocop: Nice to see that you have found your way to this forum :)

chris_lynx1989: I have seen red german Lynx together with Marlboro Go cart as you said. One of these was sold on Ebay some time ago. I have also seen green Lynx on picture but I belive this was painted by its owner. Maybe this is the case with the white Lynx too? Also there is the pink Lynx and light-blue Lynx. http://www.atariage....ndHersLynx.html These looks realy nice I think :D

Yeah I can back Clock up about UK Lynx's, my original mark I Lynx never lost any paint, nor has the one I won on eBay recently. My mate Mike's lost some paint on the cartridge bay but none on the front side of the console.

On your UK Lynxes with intact paint, is the D-pad a simple cross or more of a cup? I think that there is a Lynx I mkII that had the cross D-pad and labelling that was more red than orange. Also I think it has a plastic shell instead of painted aluminium or whatever.

I had the flaky one though...

My 1989 Lynx had a raised black circle behind a chunky cross for the D pad but the one I got on eBay recently just has a smooth round edged cross and nothing else, it also has little bumps above and below the D pad. I've no idea what they are for and I'd never seen a Lynx like it before.
