I usually go here to check out all the different emulators:
http://www.zophar.net/windos.phtml

RockNES works best for me for the NES.

"Best" is largely dependant on your system setup. On my crappy 486, Nesticle works the best.

Of course, it hasn't been updated since 1998 :)

It was my favorite when I started looking at NES emulation, I like the gui for Nesticle too, a nice severed hand :P

VirtuaNES is a good one.

There's an English download for it, even though the site is in ... Chinese, I think.

Nester or Ultra, I use both and they work great. Nesticle is not supported any more but it's great if you want to get started in rom hacking. Just go to zophar's website and take your pick.

I agree with Jnes being awesome. But it doesn't do very well with a game like Wizards and Warriors. FCEU does that one pretty good.

Nesticle does movies which is great.

But the one emulator that seems to work on all the computer systems I've tried is Nesten.

Rocknes has never worked for me, prob cuz I'm just a tard

VirtuaNES works better for me than JNES. For example, JNES had serious problems with Double Dragon, but VirtuaNES runs it perfectly. At any rate, I'm going to get me an NES system again, because it just isn't the same playing these games on a computer, dammit. For one thing, PC controllers SUCK!!!!! Not a really functional D-pad in existence among PC controllers, apparently. Give me the old NES controllers any day. Plus, it's just somehow comforting to have that old console on the coffee table in front of you. :) My Atari 2600 and 5200 console resurrection projects are nigh complete, and then it's OPERATION NES!!! I wish I still had my original console...it was stolen by an ex-housemate, probably not coincidentally after he found out it was once played by Kurt Cobain; he stayed with me and a friend for a couple of weeks, a month or two before he hit the big time with Nevermind. There, that's my name-drop for the day. Never liked his music, but he was a nice guy. :)

I have to use 2 nintendo Emulators JNES and VirtualNES. Both are as good as each other.

If one game doesnt work on JES then VirtualNES it will, and vice-versa.

I agree!

I got an adapter from http://www.deepdarksea.com/ that allows you to hook up a SNES pad (or Super Advantage stick I bet) to your LPT1 port and use it for NES/SNES emulation. There was some minor setup and a download of a program called dpadpro I believe but that was it.

It's like playing the real thing! The only drawback is if you want to use a printer, I guess you're swapping cables.

I've tried a bunch of different controllers for the PC and most them were horrible. There was no good way to get 4-way direction out of their 8-way D-pads, much less good 8-way direction. I was looking for a controller to play SNES and NES games, and finally found the Saitek P880. It has a nice D-pad that you can actually get accurate 4-way direction out of. It also has dual analog joysticks, and the shoulder buttons like on the SNES controllers. I love it. It's also great for Spy Hunter via MAME (this was unplayable for me previously), as the analog joystick saves the day for the steering!

No, I don't work for Saitek, I'm just very happy with their controller and thought I'd share the information.

FCEUltra is the best. it supports the most mappers and the sound is the best. it plays castlevania 3 flawlessly. it runs great. just dont put the fullscrean res to high as it will slow it down and there is no point as the games are only 320x240 if im correct and seeing as there is no filtering there is no point to put it much higher that that. definantly go with this download it either at Zophar's Domain or Emu Unlimited

Neticle is great, until you have to deal with USB pads. I stand by NesTEN, although it eats CPU cycles like fritos.
